After being in love with Daichi for multiple years, Michimiya knows him quite well. So when he asks if she wants to go out for dinner she definitely knows better than to think it's a date. She is NOT going to humiliate herself like that - Daichi is too dense to notice girls, and too focused on volleyball to think about dating. She does find it weird that none of their other friends are at dinner, and she does find it weird it's a pretty nice restaurant, but again, she knows better and she will NOT embarrass herself. At the end of the dinner, he walks her home and asks if she'd be interested in doing it again, and she obviously tells him yes, but they should definitely invite their other friends next time, there's no point in leaving them out, and it would be more fun in a big group. He seems surprised, but nods along, and says he'll text her some other time, and it's a full 12 weeks later when she realizes she hasn't heard from him about any other plans that she realizes that it had, in fact, been a date, and somehow after five goddamn years of complaining about him not noticing her she had managed to not only fail to notice going on a date, but ALSO fully reject him in the process.
