The word “taste” has the following meanings:
1. the sensation of flavor perceived in the mouth and throat on contact with a substance;
2. a person’s liking for particular flavors. ( but not only)
At first, my mind went instantly to food - me being a gourmand, but then I realized that it is not about the taste of food or drink, but about a person’s individual preferences, the distinctions that one makes between styles, art, manners and so on. It represents an ability to critique and recognize what is good and suitable for an individual.
Taste is subjective. We have compared two types of curation, conventionaland social, so the real world and the online world. These involve the individual’s taste.
The key words that define conventional/content curation would be taste maker, mass variation, communities and subjective. Having this content curation we benefit from a wide range of available content.
The key words for the social curation are media platform, internet, third party, collaborative filtering and algorithm. Social platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and even Youtube often use curation algorithms to match content to user tastes. Introducing curation on these platforms makes consumers less selective and increases connectivity. This algorithm creates a filter bubble and gives suggestions to an individual by making use of his individual taste. For example, if one watches a video with dogs on Facebook, later on there will appear more and more related videos as suggestions.
