Balloon Glowdeo™

Albuquerque’s International Balloon Fiesta celebrates all-thing-balloons for nine days in October, continually drawing record crowds and attracting new entries every year.

But for two days–Thursday and Friday– the special shapes take over, and Balloon Fiesta takes flight without ever leaving the ground. Since 1989, the Special Shape Rodeo has grown into Balloon Fiesta’s most popular attraction.

The one thing with my PowerShot: there is a delay between depressing the shutter and the picture being taken. That delay is just long enough to make taking pictures of relatively quick things that flash, like lighthouses and balloon blows, difficult. So often, I end up with a picture of the dark rather than the brilliant scene that just flashed before my eyes.

Walking around, there is the Wells Fargo stagecoach, the bumblebees, Noah's Ark, Jesus, a dog, a cow, a mushroom, devils and other monsters, a tree, the sun, a moving truck, and this house. There were, literally, over 100 differently and uniquely shaped hot air balloons.

The Glowdeo is pretty cool. As dusk fell, the pilots would fire up their burners, lighting up the balloon against the night sky.
