When I was first told that I receive over three thousand discreet advertising messages a day, I'll admit I was skeptical. I'm so annoyed by the conscious ads I am faced with every day that it was hard to imagine that I could let so many past me.
Then I had a disturbing thought what if I'm so accustomed to advertising that I've become numb to it? Does that make me immune? Certainly not because I'm pretty sure I just bought a Smoothie King smoothie after getting an email coupon. So, I spent the day paying extra close attention.
From my radio turning on to wake me up, to listening to Pandora on my iPhone at the gym, I could not escape the ads. In fact, Pandora has advertisements ON Pandora telling you to pay for Pandora Premium to get rid of advertisements! At the very least they know they're annoying.
Driving home from the gym I passed a million billboards and signs pulling me in all directions. And finally when I reached home and thought I'd escaped the ad madness, there was a sign taped to my door offering lawn services.
Suddenly three thousand doesn't seem such a stretch.
