On This Day (5/14): sIngs, Caddywhompus, Gnarwolf
sIngs / Caddywhompus / Guerilla Foco Clan / Sun Hotel (05/14/2010; 1816 Calumet, Houston, TX)
The main thing I remember about this show was the party, not the actual show. The bands were cool, of course. Houston had a great scene around this time. sIngs and Caddywhompus were both awesome. sIngs is over, but I think Caddywhompus still plays. I don’t really remember the other two. But the party...
It was at this show I made the plan to go to Austin to see Converge for the first time, which will be covered here on the blog shortly. That ended up being an incredible show, and the seeds were planted on this night in a conversation with Buxton’s drummer Justin Terrell who I ended up going to Austin with.
The cops showed up this night, I believe, and I ended up hiding out in someone’s room (being underage at the time), where we got super high and watched Insane Clown Posse’s “Miracles” video for the first time. I ended up eating venison with some guys and watching Peep Show until the sun came up. It was a fun night. This is my high ass that night:
Gnarwolf / Versa Nova (5/14/2016; Grizzly Hall, Austin, TX)
This was an EP release show, and I remember Gnarwolf being a hell of a lot of chaotic fun. They played a very short set, but they kicked ass. It was a kind of spur of the moment show that I wasn’t really planning on going to, but I ended up leaving impressed.
