It only took a decade — but an Atlanta group says they have beaten the Guinness World Record for the "largest gathering of people dressed as garden gnomes."
Exactly 755 participants met in an area, outlined in the shape of a mushroom, wearing the mandated pointy red hats and other gnome-related garments during the 2018 Inman Park Festival parade on April 28.
The group needed to beat the record of 478 gnomes, achieved in the U.K. in 2011. They beat that number by 277, more than doubling the previous Atlanta attempts of 315 and 260 “gnomes” in 2017 and 2016, respectively.
The attempt was organized by Chantelle Rytter and the Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons, who also host the Atlanta Beltline Lantern Parade.
