I headcanon a lot of the reason that this is a thing is also because Gordon is closer in age to the security team than the science team! To the science team Gordon is this fledgling hotshot with so much potential to mess up their immaculate lab and endless procedures. To the security team? Gordon is just another one of the guys.

yea! i totally agree. to what we know abt the science team even gina and colette look like they’re probably 30-35, so it’d make sense for him to socialize with the boys from security.

1: sexuality headcanonbi

2: otpFreehoun, which is mostly the only thing I ship involving Barney. There is Lauren but she barely qualifies as a character, so it doesn’t really count

3: brotpBarney being an uncle/big brother figure for Alyx is… very good. I wish there was more content with that sort of interaction between them (I’m an artist and kind of a fanfic writer so I could make it myself but eehhhh…)

4: notpdon’t really have one tbh. I don’t see much shipping involving Barney other than with Gordon and Lauren, so I haven’t seen enough to actually find any pairings I really dislike

5: first headcanon that pops into my headI’m, like, 90% sure he has some knowledge about G-Man. Obviously not as intensive as Eli’s or Breen’s or the Vortigaunts, but still enough to know why and how Gordon’s back. There’s too many things that he says and does that seem kinda off without him having some knowledge from the G-man to not know anything about him. Too causal about meeting Gordon who hadn’t aged a day after 20 years, not particularly excited or visibly relieved when he finds out Gordon and Alyx survived Nova Prospekt, both he and Kliener saying goodbye to Gordon in the lab as if they know he’s not going to end up on Eli’s end. The actual explanation for this is probably questionable writing, but I like to at least have a little faith in Valve that they had a vague idea of what they were doing.

6: favorite line from this characterI’m gonna stay away from the obvious ones and go with “You’ve got the HEV suit, you deal with it” line mostly because it’s essentially a summary of the entire series at this point

7: one way in which I relate to this characterBoring answer but I honestly don’t relate to him much at all? I love his character and all but I don’t see myself in him at all.

8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this characterIt’s not secondhand embarrassment and it’s not anything the character himself did but something that pisses me off that it feels like there’s so much more to his character but it’s just… not there? Like pretty much all the characters, Barney has a pretty solid base, but the problem is that there’s not much built off of it. don’t get me fucking started on all the wasted potential when it comes to the characters in Half-Life. that’s a whole different conversation

I'm still noodling on how to continue our writing, but I'd love to see Bruce see the surface of Earth eventually in our Aperture threads! It'd be cool seeing him interact with all the weird alien wildlife. ( skototropisms )

Oh, that'd be so interesting to write! I'd also love to see how Wheatley would react to the alien creatures, as well! I'm particularly fond of houndeyes, even if they might be destructive in groups.

Hopefully neither Bruce nor Wheatley are susceptible to headcrabs!

(Though maybe we can tweak the canon just a bit so the entire ocean isn't drained because I think that would just about outright kill Bruce ;;)

Your latest piece of art got me thinking! Is there any particular way you'd picture Bruce looking different in Luca's world? I ask because the animation style is very distinct. Would you exaggerate his shapes more? Bump up the contrast on his colors? ( Not necessarily asking for a visual aid, I'm just curious! )

Thank you so much! Bruce is probably a lot more saturated and lacks his distinct meat hook talons; none of the sea folk or animals had sharp features so neither would Bruce.

Additionally, he’s less detailed than in my style: he probably doesn’t have as many skin nubs / soft spikes as my usual style and his paint-splatter pattern is reduced to a blurred gradient. Finally, Bruce’s eyes and mouth shape are more consistent with the style, too.
