This isn't the time. She already has so much to do. Joey having a better conscience and emotional breadth than any of them just added more. And today, she doesn't want to analyze feelings. Doesn't want to have a discussion on morality and her choices, and so her response is harsher than she'd normally use on her youngest.

Joey is a sunshine break in what's been a stormy day to say the least. Though, his presence stuck out like a sore thumb in Searchers. It makes her smile long before the welcome cheek kiss.

"Wanna do lunch?" She pushed the papers away and cracked her neck. "I need to get out of here for awhile. I promise no smokes and we could maybe stop at a the new art gallery on the way back."

Panic mostly subsided at the familiar moving. He misses a word here and there in the bleary blinking of it all, but it's enough to get the jist from Joey. Shit fucking hurts.

"I'd really prefer to not," he grumbled. Staying awake was preferable to dreams of burning up again. It didn't seem like a battle he'd win though. Surrendering to the fate, he inched closer to the blonde and closed his eyes again.

"Don't draw on my face. And don't let me forget to tell you about the mess later. I swear it was worth the risk."

It's going to take her awhile to get fluent at ASL, but don't worry, she had a big library haul to learn. She keeps her notebook by just in case she doesn't follow. But she'd been proud of learning what she had.

"Thank you! I made it! It's my favorite thing," she beamed. Her head tilted away slightly and a giggle followed, like a chime in conversation no one else could hear.

"Well, my second favorite. Bobby's obviously my favorite. How come you don't have a cape? A purple one! Or a mask? I think I'd look cool with a mask."

{ from @gntlesoull } Joseph wasn't put-off by his mother's office door being shut. He knew what took place behind her desk, on her phone. But it was odd to be left alone for so long, long enough to have her youngest child (who was grown, thank you) come wandering down the halls. His lips were pressed into a firm frown, having to brace himself for whatever reality awaited him. Just because he'd jump at his Mother's call for him didn't mean he had to be happy about it... His hand froze mid-air, having to switch and uncomfortably tug at the turtleneck he wore. Perhaps after some well-spent time together, he'd be released and back with his friends for the week. The thought, both of them, were nice. Knock, knock. Joey didn't wait for an answer, he let himself in, signing, >>It's a bright and sunny day... What if we stayed by the pool?<<

As a general rule, she hates when things don't go to plan. As well as surprises. Well, any surprises that were work related. Those were decidedly unwelcome. Leave it to the universe to throw things when she just wanted a little down time. It's unusual to see her anxious at all.

Eyes flicking up to the door, she gave an apologetic wave and wince. Time to wrap up. This is one time she hadn't actually called Joey to help with work. It wasn't her intent to keep him waiting so long. Ear still pressed to the phone, Adeline drummed her nails impatiently on the desk.

"Just figure it out and update me when you find out anything." The dismissal might have been a bit more harsh than she'd intended. Still, brushing a hand through her hair, the smile came back on in full force. Problems for later. She'd sort it. Right now, she wanted some time with her son.

"I'm sorry." Genuinely. Adeline walked over to slide an easy arm around his, leaning in a bit of a side hug. "That actually sounds wonderful, sweetie. I think some fresh air would be good for me."

She'd kill for a cigarette, even if she'd been trying to break the habit. Her fingers still rolled together, missing the absence.

( from @gntlesoull ) Leaping, soaring from another guard's body as they hit the wall painfully-- Jericho barely managed to escape the hall unscathed. Why his friend, dear friend, wanted him to retrieve this stash of Xenothium was unclear until Red X arrived to steal it first. He thought he lost the thief, but there they were hitting the corner and stalking him like some sort of known prey.

If he could just get the mask off, he could make CONTACT! Joey's eyes searched frantically, backing away and stumbling as he's done so. Why send someone like him? Not a fighter. Never had been. Because you had a way of infiltrating like no other.

He held up a hand, asking them to stop-- unsure if he'd even understand if he'd throw out a sign or two.

That's right. Look like a pathetic lamb, Joe. Gives you time to think of a solution. Let Red X underestimate you.

"Really cute," he deadpanned, but the last thing any Kane child was, was helpless. Shooting out a sticky x, he's hoping it lands enough to trap Joey to the wall. Well, his lower half at least. There's a gnawing uncomfortableness sitting in his gut about incapacitating hands. Tactically, it's what he should be going for first. But where was the fun with Titans without the banter?

"Aren't you supposed to travel in buddy system?" That was like, half the point of the Titans, right? Having people to back you up? "Boy Blunder must be unusually strapped to go with you."

Maybe that gnawing is about something else. Wormed into his chest with a heavy heat that almost could have been mistaken for something physically wrong- if part of him didn't know better. This was supposed to be fun. Usually, this is fun! So, why did his skin feel like it wanted to crawl? The instinct to just give it up this time and disappear pounding through his head. Stubbornness was always one of his most prominent traits though. He opts to try another shot towards Joey's eyes. Temporarily blindfolding him would work just as well if it hit.
