so i played ingress for a while, it’s another one of niantic’s games (the ppl who made pokemon go). One of the things that always made me sad about ingress was how insular all the factions were and how hard it was to make friends through the game.
Cut to today. Pokemon Go is out. Oh man.
On my lunch break, I walked over to the nearest gym - it’s in the financial district. I was walking alongside another guy who was also playing - we noticed each other’s phones at the same time and did the “oh hey you’re playing too!” thing, then discussed our pokemon and teams, etc. It was really nice!
The server died before I could attack the gym, so I went back to work and kept hitting the poke stops i can reach from my office.
Tonight, I was headed down to Davis Square to meet up with some friends for dinner, playing pokemon on the way. A gym I had taken over last night had been re-claimed for the blue team, so I took them down and then went to heal the pokemon i was going to set up as ruler of the gym. IN THE TIME IT TOOK ME TO HEAL MY HYPNO, SOME FUCKER FROM TEAM RED HAD TAKEN THE GYM
IM LITERALLY LOOKING AT THIS FUCKER ON HIS BIKE AND I”M SO MAD
So i took it back and yelled at him across the street and it was excellent.
Continuing on to Davis I ran into two girls on team red! they told me that people had set up lures on four poke stops in davis very close to each other and there was a big gathering and LO AND BEHOLD there were like 25 people in Davis all chatting and catching pokemon!! They already made a Somerville facebook group!!! WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE
anyway tl;dr i am a chatty motherfucker and this game is like ingress with more accessibility to other people and I am so happy about it!!!!
