Society dims your light.
They tell you to pick something that's more practical. They tell you to try to pick an occupation or a job that'll help pay the bills. They say that you dreams are unrealistic and you should just work in something simple, like an office job, a retail job, or something else that earns 6 figures or more. And due to the ongoing pressure, you do.
You start that job, but then the world begins to feel dull and gloomy. Everyday, when you return home, you're too tired to do anything. So, instead of investing into the creativity like you were able to do as a kid, before the world became too much for you, you doomscroll instead or watch TV. In the process, you lose hours of your life only to repeat that process the next day.
It seems like a never-ending cycle. You feel hallow inside, yet you try to desperately search for the answer as to why you feel this way. You ask yourself, "I've done everything right, so why do I feel so...empty?"
Society is trying to destroy the soul inside of you. The passion you have, and the fire in your eyes that leads right to what you know you want and have inside of you. Only you know what you want. Only you know what is true for you, no one else. Stop being afraid of rejection just because of what you've been told. Don't let yourself believe that you have to suffer working in soul-sucking conditions and never have your art form shown to the world.
So, start drawing that character and working on that comic you wanted to do. Open your phone or laptop and start typing that first chapter that you've been hesitating to write, despite your fingers itching to feel your keyboard against it. Sing that tune and write that song that you feared no one would be willing to hear.
You never know the outcome of what'll become until you try. The world will learn to appreciate your art form as long as you keep trying. Keep creating, friends. The journey does not end here.
