The Artful Life

The creative touchstone in my neighborhood is this local park. It has walking trails that lead throuugh large open green spaces and through wooded areas as well. There are many ponds with docks to connect to the water, a playground, and sitting areas. It is the perfect place to sit and reflect or observe many different activities going on around you. I started going here to walk my dog and excercise but the resting and reflection afterwards became my favorite part. Connecting with nature fuels my creativity and sparks so many ideas for me. Outside of this time, it is hard for me to rest and I like to stay busy so I think this time at the park gives me that consistant reflection time that fuels my creativity. I like to observe the changing colors of the leaves in the trees, the reflection in the water, chalk drawings on the sidewalk from children, and flowers blooming in the spring.

I find inspiration from other artists through books. Since I was a child, a public library is an artful place that has always made me feel alive. This morning I am thumbing through this copy of Studio Olafur Eliasson’s The Kitchen published by Phaidon. The composition of the page, the photography and color saturation, the hand-drawings, sketches, paintings, explorations, all this creativity stirs my soul to the core. GO at Higginson-Lewis School in Roxbury, MA

First day of the Higg-Lew renovation! Thanks to some of our BAC student volunteers and Higher Ground youth, we were able to clear both faculty rooms. We unloaded all of our materials/furniture needed to revamp the spaces and now the walls are ready for painting. So excited to see this project come to fruition! Stay tuned for more progress!

Design for Sustainability and Circularity

A world where sustainability and circularity are at the forefront of design would mean having a harmonious relationship between human activities and the natural environment, where prosperity and well-being are achieved within planetary boundaries and for future generations. This would require a major shift in values, mindset, and behavior towards more holistic, regenerative, and equitable ways of living and designing.
