WIP Wednesday - 6/11/2025 (Ineffable Gravity by @enderhuntresss)
I'm a sucker for smart arguing. And today's WIP rec offers some VERY smart arguments between our ineffable pair.
In this enemies-to-lovers fic, Crowley is a rockstar prof of astrophysics who crosses the country to co-teach with creative writing professor Aziraphale Fell. Of course, they can't stand each other.
What makes this fic so striking is that the arguments between the pair are not typical bicker flirting. They're really smart and cover a variety of topics. Even more amazingly, English is not the writer's first language. With every chapter, I look forward to a new argument.
This fic is fully written and posts regularly. Check out the fic's details below.
Don't forget to leave kudos and comments. Our writers are a gift to the fandom and deserve to know how much we appreciate them.

So it’s not exactly fully formed yet, but I have a rough outline of this au. Things may be subject to change.
To begin with we have Aziraphale, crown prince of his country. We start the story when he’s a boy and spending summers at his summer castle near the border.
One day as he’s wandering the forest he stumbles upon a snake which nearly bites him until another boy saves him in the nick of time. The boy scolds Aziraphale for being so careless in this deep into a forest. It’s clear that Aziraphale is some noble boy, he continues disparagingly, why doesn’t he have a sword?
To which Aziraphale mumbles that he gave his sword away. He starts babbling as he receives an incredulous look. The forest is dangerous, he knows that, but he saw this couple fleeing from the neighbouring country and the lady was pregnant and they didn’t have anything except themselves and so he gave them his lunch and his sword so that they could protect themselves and sell it later when they’re safer. He’s interrupted in the middle of his rant by his stomach grumbling which breaks his savior into laughter.
After the boy stops laughing, he asks for Aziraphale’s name, but Aziraphale figures that he really shouldn’t give out his real name and says Zira. The boy gives him a sceptic look and then tells him to call him Crawly, clearly also a fake name, but Aziraphale doesn’t mind. He started it.
Crawly leads him to an apple grove just over the border and while Aziraphale frets because he heard all sorts of nasty rumours about the neighbouring country, Crawly reassures him that he really shouldn’t believe all the rumours. Sure life is tough here, but it’s not so bad really.
They part ways but keep meeting that summer and the next and the next.
Unbeknowst to Aziraphale, Crawly is actually Anthony, a prince from the neighbouring country. He’s not very high up the succesion ladder, which is why he lives in a castle near the border. Life is tough in his country (I really should make up some names), for numerous reasons, like the limited fields for agriculture, limited trade options and maybe the current ruler is not terribly concerned in fixing all that.
That’s all I’ve got for the beginning I guess. No clue what to specifically do with the middle part. They get to know each other. They have meetings that link back to their meetings in the show and book.
I do have something planned for the ending.
What I’m really working towards is them eventually having an arranged marriage to each other. Only they don’t know that the other is to be their partner. Aziraphale knows that his intended partner is to be Prince Anthony, in no way a relation to his Crowley. And Crowley has the chance to be considered as a partner for the Crown Prince Aziraphale, who coincidentally has the same name as his Aziraphale.
By this time they’re both in love in each other and still see each other in the summer.
Aziraphale confesses about the arranged marriage and how he can’t see a way out of it because it is his duty. Crowley confesses the same but tries to convince Aziraphale to run away with him. Aziraphale refuses even though it breaks his heart.
Crowley tries again (as per canon) and then Aziraphale refuses again.
I need to figure out what will change Aziraphale’s mind, but for the next part he will find something to help get Crowley’s kingdom back to its feet. He rushes to Crowley to run away with him and pass on the key to save his kingdom (maybe a book detailing some kind of resource that’s actually very rare).
Just when he and Crowley reunite, there’s a fire. Haven’t figured out what kind of fire.
1. I’m leaning towards some forest fire that they’re trying to escape and then run onto a hanging bridge that’s slowly falling apart. Just when the bridge snaps, Aziraphale pushes Crowley (and the book) to safety and falls into the river below.
2. Point is that Crowley is made to believe that Aziraphale died in an incident involving fire after managing to get him that book.
Crowley searches for him but then he finds something of Aziraphale’s and is forced to admit that he probably didn’t survive. In his grief he does manage to share the information in the book with the Royal family, to which they want to reward him by calling off his arranged marriage. Crowley doesn’t really care either way, not with his angel gone, and argues that perhaps having relations with the neighbouring country through marriage is still a good strategy. He embarks on a journey to meet his future fiancé.
Meanwhile Aziraphale managed to get to safety or someone from his family found him and he’s spent a long time recovering from his wounds and near drowning. When he’s recovered, his family informs him that his prospective partner is on his way to meet him. Aziraphale tells them that he already loves somebody else and that he won't go through with the arrangement. He agrees to at least meet this prince and if he wants to reject him he’ll have to do it face to face.
Cue the reunion where Crowley and Aziraphale finally see each other as they are. Cue tearful Crowley who can’t believe that his angel is still alive, though still looking a bit peaky.
That’s all I’ve got for now.
Anyways, I’ve got other plot points but they’re not nearly as complete, so next up are some random bullet points
- Crawly will quickly (maybe after a year or two) change his alias to Crowley, citing the same reason as canon!Crowley, too-squirming-at-the-feet-ish. Would fit very well if I connect it to a reason involving the royal family.
- Aziraphale will also at some point reveal his full name to Crowley. Crowley will point out that it's the same as the crown prince to which Aziraphale will answer that that's why he shortened it, not admitting that he’s actually the crown prince. When Crowley realizes that Aziraphale actually doesn't like his name shortened, he proclaims that everybody deserves to be called what they want and from then on only calls him Aziraphale.
- The snake will come live with Crowley.
- I really need to figure out both their countries and royal families.
- Both Aziraphale and Crowley don’t know that the other is a prince of their respective countries.
- I really would like for them to be their canon apparent ages but I can’t see that working in this AU because of arranged marriages. Especially with Aziraphale, seeing as he’s a crown prince (I did that because of the Principality thing).
- Gabriel will be an advisor to the King who doesn't have a lot of confidence in Aziraphale being King.
- Beelzebub will be part of the Royal Family.
- I see Hastur and Ligur doing their parts as Dukes of the Kingdom or being a pair of criminals whose plans are foiled by Aziraphale and Crowley.
I left this comment on a WIP in which Crowley has a dark secret he's scared to share with Aziraphale. It's lovely read (as you can see from the quote above). And I've been enjoying it very much. Can anyone else recognize this WIP from the comment?
The answer is below the fold.

It’s WIP Wednesday! Wahoo!
And I’ve been loving this sweet, sweet story by @voluptatiscausa. Check out the summary below and the tags to know if it’s a good fit for you.
But let me tell you what I love about it--Yes, we have a charming, budding relationship between our ineffable pair. And it’s a delight.
But we also have some beautifully written relationships with other characters. One of the most surprising is the relationship between Aziraphale and his cousin, Michael.
It’s a joy to see the teasing relationship between these two. And seeing how they have been there for each other when others in their family have not been is heartwarming. It stands out in a fictional world that has so many fics in which characters have to leave their entire family behind to be true to themselves.
Finally, the writer does a great job of exploring Aziraphale’s arc from someone settling for what little scraps he thinks he deserves to realizing he’s worthy of love and joy as much as anyone.
This fic is regularly updated. So I strongly urge you to join along. Don’t forget to leave kudos and comments if you love it as much as I do. Not because we have to “pay” for our wonderful fics. But because we want to encourage community. And this is one way to do it.

This is from a Good Omens WIP...
F - for the first time the sunglasses were gone, and Aziraphale got to see the full bare beauty of those bold yellow eyes looking straight at him. The breath was knocked out of him, Crowley’s eyes spoke volumes, and Aziraphale wanted to dive into them and memorise every line.
A - Aziraphale saw right through him, he was fairly good at getting a proper read on people, not just the persona they projected. Mr Crowley may have appeared to be cool, trendy, and disinterested, but it was clear to Aziraphale that underneath he was lonesome, tired, and perhaps a tad unhappy.
R - red hot went through Aziraphale’s core, and he sat there stricken for a moment before realising that he should say something, but there was already a gentle snoring coming from the other end of the line.
seaskystone mentioned you on a post “So I re-read the series (for the first of many times) and have to give...”
@somebitofeverything ... I just realised that all-capsing that response was perhaps ill-advised in a conversation about Death. That was me expressing enthusiasm not some sort of mildly disturbing roleplay.
@seaskystone I knew something alarmed me about that response but I wasn’t sure what and just chalked it up to general anxiety about senpai having noticed me. XD
seaskystone mentioned you on a post “So I re-read the series (for the first of many times) and have to give...”
somebitofeverything: @ineffably-ineffable I'm... actually at this very moment, I'm working on a one-shot of Crowley's conversations with Death. I'm planning on having it written within this week... If you're interested...
seaskystone: @somebitofeverything I AM INTERESTED
Welp, guess I’m now stuck and have to write this.
Have a little preview:
Crowley came to with a gasp. Only it wasn’t a gasp. He had no body to gasp with. He was only a soul now. He was just a soul, he realised with some panic. His wings were nowhere to be seen, nowhere to be felt. His teeth were fangless, his skin scaleless.
Chains. There were chains all around him. The same chains Death had used right before they drained him of his power. He could feel it now, as opposed to earlier when he couldn’t feel it all. It was all still here, but the chains held him tight, contained him. He had no power.
