Server update! Cool new look! New feature!

kobold is now running the very latest released code! It looks tons nicer thanks to a bunch of style work @jv did, and also includes a feature I worked on that I'm really proud of: tag follows.

Click through a post's tag, then click the follow button, and your timeline now magically includes every post that arrives on the server with that tag! (Except, of course, for anyone you are muting or blocking. They can continue to pound sand.)

There's no page in your profile where you can get a list of all the tags you're currently following. Yet.

There's no "Block #fandom" button, for when you are just sick and goddamn tired of everyone's blorbo and want the tag to magically disappear completely from your timeline. Yet.

(The backend code for tag blocking is already in place, it's just not exposed in the UI.)

Goblin changelog, 19/03/2024

Another bunch of changes has been shipped!

The ides of march special arrived and left! For 24h, you could stab JC without leaving the comfort of your own dash.

The tumblr rss posts got a bit of a face wash and now are easier to identify in your dash

Posts can now be safely edited. Before this, edits were kind of a lottery: You could lose your tags, your attached videos, you name it. Now it's safe to edit posts, you should be able to do it without actually screwing your posts. I'm sorry you lost your dose of whimsical destruction.

Now the signup form doesn't reject usernames over 20 characters anymore. You have up to 128 chars to name yourself.

Restored the modal window with a short onboarding wizard new users get on signup, and made it a bit more goblin-oriented.

When you look at the notes of a post, the reblogs tab now also shows the tags in the reblog (so when you get someone reblogging you just adding some tags, you actually can see what's that about, ahem :D )

A bunch of visual fixes to improve readability all around the site.

Fixed long threads coming from the fedi when they include both reblogs and replies. If you are a goblin user already, you may have seen some posts where the 'notes' button didn't work at all. Basically, Goblin unravels mastodon-style reply conversations into reblog chains (which are much nicer to read), but when a chain included both replies and reblogs (most fediverse platforms allow to reblog not only posts, but also replies), Goblin was freaking out and some things were breaking. Now, that kind of threads should be converted to reblog chains properly and everything should work as expected.

Goblin changelog, 09/04/2024

We have a new login&register page that let you explore Goblin content for a bit. But cooler things are coming in this area.

Fixed the compatibility with misskey-based platforms (goblin was removing formatting from their posts)

Added some interface to make it easier to follow people from their profile on different Goblin servers

Fixed the tags at the bottom of a post using the wrong link to the tag page

Fixed deeply nested replies to a post not being loaded when the post was being seen from the timeline

Added Goblin's own 404 goblin in any 'not found' style page

Improved how we deal with post titles in tumblr-imported posts.

Added an option to the post menu to get the link to the original post

Fixed several stats' user counts to not include the bot accounts used to follow tumblr feeds (byebye, 7000 users, hello again, 77 users :D)

Disabled (as much as it can be done) the known AI-feeding crawlers to read Goblin.

Disabled the tumblr-sharing option for new posts if the posts are set to private, followers-only or locals-only: The option only shows up now for 100% public posts.

Catching up after my trip and the process of settling back into work. It has been a slower process than I’d like.
