“I do it myself”
When you were 2, you said “I do it myself.” Or words to that effect.
Don’t feel bad, I did too. Everybody does. It’s part of being 2.
When our parents heard that grand pronouncement? They knew what was coming next.
Something was going to get dropped. Or broken. Or spilled. Or worse.
Whatever we were doing when we said this, was about to go sideways.
If they offered to help us?
Hard no. At least until everything went wrong. Maybe not even then.
Most of us grow out of it. Over time (often the hard way), we learn to take the help offered.
God is calling you to do something. How do I know this? You’re still here.
If you’re still here, then there’s something God is calling you to do.
Funny thing is, when it comes to things that God is calling us to do, things that God has put it in our hearts to do, a lot of us act like we’re still 2 years old.
We may not say “I do it myself,” but we still try to do it ourselves. Without looking to God for help, much less relying on God.
Which is completely backwards from the point that Jesus is making in today’s Gospel.
That if God is calling you to do something, then God will give you everything you need to it.
Not everything you need to do it on your own, but everything you need to do it with Him.
You and I were never meant to do it on your own. And we don’t have to.
God will be with us every step of the way. If we’re wise enough to take His help.
