🧪- God's Failures (thiam re-animator au)
“Since you’re keeping notes, what have I yet to do in terms of experiments, Liam?” Theo asks as he stares at Dr Harris’ head with mad exhilaration. His hand hovers over his many sharp tools.
Liam glances at him and then the head. He doesn’t want Theo to play with Dr Harris, he wants him gone. He has felt guilt for every single creature in this basement but never even a sliver of regret for what befell Dr Harris. He simply wishes he hadn’t had to kill him, the regret being that he was the one who had to kill him, not that he died. So he’s ready to do whatever he needs to get Theo to throw away this toy.
“If he doesn’t want to say anything, then he won’t say it.” His voice is soft, so soft, actually, that Theo forgets the head for a moment and looks back at Liam with a calmer expression, enthralled and curious by this new soothing tone. “Let’s just kill him, Theo. You’re wasting your time with him.” Liam gently takes his arm, pretending to check his watch but his fingers are rubbing on his arm and making Theo sway towards him and away from the table. “And I know you hate to waste your time.”
☀️- Sunshine (Theo can't warm up unless he's close to Liam)
He thought it hadn't really been that much better with Liam but either he forgot how cold his body could become or this is worse. It feels like he's being stabbed everywhere all the time and he can barely move. It hurts so much, all he can think about is that he wants the dread doctors to come back. Something is very very wrong with him. And they always knew how to fix him. His body is giving up on him so they have to come back and help him. He can't do this on his own anymore. It hurts too much and he’s too tired. He never really thought that he missed the doctors but, curled up in a little ball on his backseat, he feels like screaming their names.
✨ - surprise me (All bite, no bark: 5 times Theo bit Liam)
Liam grins but a part of him can't help but be stressed that if Theo knows he's stressed about school without Liam having to say anything, then maybe he knows that he likes spending time with him. Then again, maybe that wouldn't be so bad. Liam likes this new easy confidence Theo has been building these last few months. It's not like the fake arrogance of before, it's… a lack of fear. Like Theo is living now unburdened by the weight of dread. It took him some months after he came back from hell but Liam likes how comfortable Theo is these days. It makes him feel all warm inside. In a totally platonic and uninterested and perfectly detached type of way of course!
As they keep walking into the forest, Liam makes sure to keep a firm and considerable distance between them… which would be a good strategy if Theo didn't take a sick pleasure in walking closer to Liam… who then needs to walk even faster to escape him again.
Theo smiles at Liam's antics and the beta wants to snap. Why is the chimera so freaking amused and nice-looking all the time? Wait. That’s not what he meant! Just that he looks happy and it’s sending a weird tingling sensation in his stomach. No, wait, that’s so much worse!
“What's up with you tonight?”
Theo's words make him snap back to the present and he looks left and right, searching for an exit door in the peaceful forest.
“With me? Oh, I'm fine, it's you who decided to be a freaky little cannibal recently.”
Theo snorts at the defensiveness but before he can make a quick and sassy comeback, Liam is walking away.
He needs to take a hold of Liam's coat for him to finally stop and Liam folds his arms in a vain attempt to keep some distance or maybe some dignity. Still, he stays put in front of him, looking at the ground.
“What are you talking about?” Theo asks but there's a smirk in the corner of his mouth that Liam easily notices.
“The…! Ah. Th- Uh… You… You know!”
Fuck… Liam can feel blush creeping on his face.
“The…” Liam glances at his mouth again, losing his train of thought when he sees his teeth. Flashes of memory pop into his mind until it's not just his face that's growing hot. He takes a step back, making Theo lose his hold on his coat. “The biting! Wh-Which is super weird by the way!”
“Is it weird?” Theo asks coyly, his tone calm and his smirk still intact.
“Uh, Yeah! It was super weird and- and you're super weird and- and how – HOW? – could I ever find that not weird!?”
Panting nervously in the quiet of the forest, Liam suddenly can't stand Theo's silence on the subject and he looks at him. “What?”
Theo is still grinning at him but, slowly, two fangs cover his bottom lip. Liam feels a pulse of what he hopes is fear.
“Theo…” Liam whispers like a warning as he starts walking backwards.
Walking towards Liam with his stupid fangs still out, Theo looks like a dumb vampire at best. Liam feels the urge to laugh and run away at the same time… so he does exactly that.
