“@pureirishnonsense @rinboz Dancer is a goddamn joy to fight and I love...”
Well if it's about 2 specifically i kinda see where ppl are coming from but even there it's (imo) not even close to being the most glaring issue, i think the boss shape is secondary, it's much more important how the devs handle it (maiden astraea being one of my fav FROM examples). xD I guess he doesn't , you were talking dark souls after all but I JUST FUCKING LOVE LUDWIG!
Nah, I’ve seen people list every single vaguely humanoid boss in each game as a problem, not really taking into account how the fight actually goes, but that’s the internet for you. Also yeah, DaS2 had more of a too much unpolished and incohesive stuff problem than a boss one, there was a lot of cool fights there, even with all the twin dragonrider nonesense.
I like a lot of the straightforward “fight the big knight lad” bosses because that’s where most of the really hype fights are, while the more creative ones often have weird camera and hitboxes or are just based on a gimmick of sorts. Not Ludwig of course, he is rad as fuck, but things like Dragon God are only mindblowingly cool at first and then you just wish he’d stop punching you while you try to reach the button prompts. I don’t even know what I’m trying to argue here, because I love the weird DeS fights to bits, but if I had choose a boss to fight again it’d be the Penetrator, not the Run for the Giant Crossbows.
Maybe DeS was too tilted in the gimmick boss direction and DeS2 too into the Stab Dude one, but you need both imo.
who are your favorite bosses anyway
Fuck, if you forced me to pick I’d just go with separate categories for fight I enjoyed playing the most and for the most atmospheric one
DaS2 Raime / Burnt Ivory King
DaS3 Champ Gundyr&Soul of Cinder / Nameless King
BB - I didn’t get the chance to play all of the DLC yet because I borrowed the ps4 from a m8 so Gehrman / Rom
