Thank you! I appreciate the compliment :] also for anyone curious this was sent to me way before I got that ramble ask abt this character lol. Here, in honor of the appreciation uwu
I would like to know about Reputus :) and/or Godwatcher too if you want, tho I feel like Godwatcher is meant to be mysterious? Idk, I just found these characters very interesting ^^
This was a really refreshing ask to receive! The two obscure background characters that get mentioned in the cracks of the story. It seems my posting about Mihail drew attention to er teacher more. I'm glad to get asked more about lesser known characters :] It's true, Godwatcher is meant to be mysterious! But I can still talk about the character overall.
Above^ is some basic info about both, taken from this post. I'll put the rest under the cut bc I anticipate it getting long (For navigation: Black text is about Reputus, blue text about Godwatcher)
Godwatcher (Any pronouns, I'll be using thon. Often also referred to with it/its) and Reputus (plural they/them)
Let's tackle Reputus first! They were a creation of Hart, made a long long time ago. And by long I mean way back when Heaven's gates were first built. Hart saw that and was like "Oh shoot let's do that too" and made the watchtowers.
Reputus is usually referred to plurally. Think of them like a mushroom network, there's the mycelium under the ground which connects all of the mushroom buds to each other. In Reputus' case, each head tends to look somewhat unique, depending on the environment they emerge in. But every tower you see is part of the same organism and if you harm one, all of them will know. This makes Reputus an absolute gossip. They know, or strive to know, everything that's happening in hell. Since their towers make a complete circle around the entire area of hell, they have povs into each district. So definitely if you want to know shit, ask them. Although, they usually exchange info for info, or some favors, often petty or superficial. Reputus is a whole bastard.
They worked as a general wall around hell, seeing who goes in and out, and often tempting people in (like non-hellborn demons, mortals and even angels sometimes). They used to have a good amount of authority, which is why the Watchtowers are still classified as high demons. But once heaven proposed a gate for hell too, and it was accepted and built, Reputus lost their job. They're extremely bitter about it, especially at their creator Hart who could've prevented that from happening but didn't. Hart didn't think of it as anything personal against the watchtowers, since they can still do most of the things they were created for, but the anger led to Reputus going rogue and no longer taking orders or reporting back to Hart at all. Except in absolute emergencies. They love to piss off Hart but it's surprisingly difficult..
Then good ol Godwatcher, also known as The forgotten. Thon never moves from thons spot. Thon does move literally ofc, sometimes adjusting thons position or "looking" into a different direction. People often wonder what that weird ghost looking thing at thons side is, or if thon has free will, is capable of reproduction, why thon won't move and how it knows everything ect
Thon doesn't really take personal questions. As Godwatcher is an old entity, there's been alot of discussion and speculation surrounding it and what thon is. Demons think about the God aspect more as many of them wonder whether or not there really is a god and why someone's watching it. There's been theories that Godwatcher is a fallen angel who was banished to Limbo in the ancient times, and/or the creator of Limbo itself. Thon will deny the latter however, claiming that limbo has always been around, apparently even before the times of heaven and hell.
Godwatcher is also someone who you should ask for knowledge! And unlike with Reputus it doesn't have a price or any bias. Godwatcher is of the opinion that unfiltered information should be available and accessible to everyone and anyone. Thon doesn't take sides - not even good sides. Thon simply wants to state any information so it's usable to anyone. Thon does answer some questions with explaining certain moralities that go with them. For example if asked whether or not murder is wrong, thons reply will contain why some people think it's wrong and why other people justify it. Thon will also state the harm that murder or violence causes, since that is an objective fact. Every action has consequences and thon acknowledges that some people do bad things for good causes. That doesn't minimise the damage of them however, but it's also objectively true that some people use that to justify what they do. This is what I mean with Godwatcher trying to be an unbiased source of info. Thon won't tell you what it thinks is the best option, just tell you what the options are. Good or bad.
