consciousness faded in and out, light forcing nanami to shut his eyes each time he tried to open them. the intensity was like staring directly into the sun. it was blinding and nauseating. or was the nauseous feeling from the spinning of his head? whatever the case, everything seemed to ache. every slight movement, the attempt to just open his hand. all of it was a sensation he did not have a familiarity with. he experienced the aching tiredness of existence but this was all an aching pain of something different.
a slow effort to get up was made and teeth gritted to hold back a groan of pain. feet failed to steady themselves long enough to keep him up and he found himself back on the ground. there was a heavy exhale of defeat as he stopped trying. god was he tired. the only good thing was he was still alive. the pain continuously reminded him of that. he just needed a moment of rest. maybe if he just laid back down and kept his eyes shut, he could conjure up the energy to pull himself up. yeah, that's all he needed. just a moment.
eyes closed once more as nanami stopped propping himself up and laid back. all thoughts slowly faded, going from a whisper to nothing like they were sucked into a black hole of sorts. whatever the case, the silence was peaceful. no unwanted questions, no trying to figure out where it hurt. even the pain seemed to be fading as he slowly slipped back into unconsciousness.
the last thing his consciousness registered was the approaching sounds of footsteps and hurried words. if he could feel relief in that moment, he would have but darkness consumed the last bit of awakeness he tried so desperately to keep a grasp on.
