Gojon Collection 2
Summary: Jo Yeong gets injured protecting the king. Lee Gon is not impressed
It was easy to forget that Jo Yeong technically worked for him. His job was to guard the king, no matter the danger involved. And Lee Gon knew that. Still, understanding it didn’t make seeing the younger man in a hospital bed any easier.
“He’ll be fine. the main problem is blood loss.”
A common problem when someone gets slashed with a knife apparently.
“He’ll probably be out of here and back to work tomorrow knowing Captain Jo.”
“Not if I have anything to do with it.”
The doctor smiled, noting the king’s tight grip on his guard’s hand.
“Well good luck with that your Majesty. We’re too used to Captain Jo’s stubbornness up here.”
“Don’t worry. He can’t out stubborn me.”

“What are you doing? You’re supposed to be in bed.”
Jo Yeong looked up from his laptop as the king burst through their bedroom doors.
“I am in bed.”
“You’re on bed. There’s a difference. Tell me you’re at least playing a game?”
“I’m writing up the report on the attack.”
Lee Gon stormed to the bed, slamming the laptop shut and moving it to Jo Yeong’s desk.
“You were just released from the hospital wing this morning! And already you’re working? Can’t you relax?”
“We need the reports to understand how an assailant got through all your guards, close enough to pull a knife and try to stab you.”
“And it’ll be there tomorrow. It’ll be there next week. I’m not leaving the palace until you’re fully recovered anyway. So, you have plenty of time to wrote up some stupid report. Now, get under those covers, drink that tea the kitchens sent up and sleep.”
As he turned to leave, Jo Yeong called out to him. Turning to face him, the king wasn’t surprised to see that the other man had pulled back the duvet and was patting the bed beside him. Stripping down to his underwear, Gon Lee climbed into the bed, piling the pillows to sit against the headboard. Wincing, Jo Yeong moved to rest his head on the taller man’s shoulder, passing him a cup of tea, sipping from his own. Gon Lee sighed, running his fingers through the other’s hair. Without any gel or product, Jo Yeong’s hair was the softest thing the king had ever felt.
“Do you know what Lady Noh said to me when you were sworn in as the head of the Royal Guards?”
“Nope.”
“She said that you were going to spend the rest of your life protecting mine. And the least I could do is look after you. And make sure you’re happy.”
“And you do. Gon, I love you. I didn’t get in the way of that knife only because it’s my job. I did it because I don’t want to see you hurt.”
“And you think I like seeing you hurt? There are far too many scars on your body caused by me.”
“But I like them. Means you’re alive and ok. They’re worth it. Gon, you’re worth it.”
Lee Gon couldn’t help but laugh, pulling the younger man into a quick kiss. He pulled back, wiping the moisture from his eyes.
“We’re a mess, aren’t we?”
“Yeah, but we make it work.”
Jo Yeong yawned, smiling as his king moved their cups to the bedside table, pulling his guard to lie down. They both knew the routine after all this time. Jo Yeong got injured, another scar for his collection as he called them. Gon Lee would bring him tea to help him sleep, something the other man always struggled with after being injured. Jo Yeong didn’t like taking pain killers, not liking how they dulled his senses. And then, Gon Lee would climb into their bed and tell him that story about Lady Noh. If the injury wasn’t too bad, a bruise or small wound, Gon Lee would press a kiss to each wound and scar on Jo Yeong’s body. No matter what though, they would fall asleep in each other’s arms and wake up together the next morning.
They were a mess, the King and his Royal Guard. But, they made it work.
