The Golden Gate Quartet
The Golden Gate Quartet is one of the many fine musical acts featured in A Song is Born (1948). Even Howard Hawks' four weakest films all have numerous highlights.

Lecture 11: The Golden Gate Quartet, from Norfolk, Virginia, formed in 1934, and enjoyed many active years as a spiritual jubilee quartet. They specialized in a type of gospel music that was extremely popular among African-American record buyers. They even starred in their own popular radio show on station WIS in Columbia, South Carolina, and eventually relocated (in 1937) to station WBT in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Quartet signed with the RCA and Columbia labels, and is still active today (with a whole new group of singers, obviously!). In this video, they perform their beloved song Golden Gate Gospel Train. Their unique and catchy close-harmonizing songs anticipated the coming of Doo-wop and Soul music years later.
