We're right in the middle of January now. In my experience, this is the point where all the fun holidays from the beginning of the year are a distant memory and the ones in February feel impossibly out of reach, the moment where I need a new obsession to carry me through the month more than anything. So… what have you been really into this week?
oof i really am late with this...
mid january i was basically just playing pathologic 3☝️🤓 BUT i can answer for this week
i've been researching a bit bc i've started getting a lot of videos about traveling to kyrgystan on instagram and honestly i'm trying to convince someone to come with bc it's a bit too adventurous for me to go there alone methinks.... BUT it genuinely looks so cool
also i had my first chance to say something in russian to a russian speaker on monday and i consulted with my teacher afterwards and she said i said it correctly so i've been living off that high all week as well
The question was a bit late this week so I could say: Happy pride month!! You've probably been asked which was the first lgtb person / couple you saw on tv before, but which was the last?
Not TV but I wanna talk about this so I'm gonna, I've been replaying vivid/stasis and it's so good!!!
Great gameplay, great story, great characters, (not so great dialogue but it's not horrible), and actually good representation!! The main couple is trans x ace yuri and it actually has depth and emotional stakes, I love the characters and their whole narrative arc throughout the game. Also,
😮IT'S FREE‼️😮
You can literally play the game right now for 0 bucks, cero patatero, the first natural number, zero!!!!!
It's genuinely awesome, and the whole story and how it blends interactive elements to tell it is absolutely insane, super creative, extremely fun, go play it right now!!
Here's the Steam link!
Quick one today! Tell me something niche or oddly specific about your field of work / study; or a fact that you really like :)
so, i studied translation, and one of the things that they really hammered home is that language shapes the way you think and perceive the world. Not only in a philosophical way, but in a very phisical way.
We know about the dark wine sea of the old greeks, but there are may cases. For example, europe in general didnt have a word for orange color until the introduction of the fruit in the iberian penindula by the arabs. So things considered orange now would be described as a pale red or a deep yellow instead.
Or medieval japanese, which only had four basic colors (white, black, red and blue), which basically worked as a quadrant between light/dark and warm/cold. They didn't start to develop more specific color words until contact with europeans. And even today, they still use the word for blue for things like traffic lights, and things that arent exactly vibrant plant green
Tell me an inside joke with no context.

Hi! This week was international book day (or Sant Jordi, as we call it in Spain). It is a relatively big thing here, and a day I've been pumped for since forever, so prepare for a bunch of bookish questions! Are you a big reader? Did you enjoy reading as a kid? What was your favourite book then, and what is it now? Do you have any book recommendations for me? And, lastly, did you do anything to celebrate on the 23rd?
So many questions ! You came in full force this time.
My phone is acting up so can't guarantee it will write what I am actually typing.
I read A LOT as a kid. At some point I enjoyed reading dictionaries so much I took one once to my mom's job to keep myself entertained and from that moment on, her colleagues would only give her books for me lol.
My favourite book as a child was Momo by Michael Ende. I must have read it a thousand times.
My favourite book now is not an easy answer but I will go with the two that have kept me more company over the past decade or so: The Scar by China Mieville and The Gray House by Mariam Petrosyan.
You can, of course read any of these (do NOT look for the translation into Spanish if The Gray House. It exists and it's a disgrace), but I will recommend you 19th Century literature.
Ifyou didn't follow the Monte Cristo Daily, go for it. And if you haven't, read La Regenta: come for the gossip and social commentary, stay for the unexpected erotism.
Happy new year! Since it's the first week of the year, I thought we'd kick the asks off with something cliche: New years resolutions. Have you made any? Why, or why not? What are they?
Heyo Taba!!! Happy new year to you as well 💜💜✨
I actually made a post with my new years resolutions already, you can find it here.
To summarize I mostly want to write a lot more this year because I feel I have been neglecting that for a while now and I do miss it. I also just want to get better at it? And faster. One thing that frustrates me the most while writing is how long I take to get things done and I think I just need to write more regularly to fix that.
It's not mentioned in the linked post but I lowkey also want to take up embroidery or sewing. Tbh I've wanted to learn how to sew for a long time but it's very overwhelming and my brain nopes out trying to even start that kind of project, so embroidery is more likely at the moment.
I'm honestly not really a new years resolution type of guy so idk if how much I will manage but I shall try my best 🫡
The shortest month of the year has come to an end, so today I'm asking about short-lived adventures (spreading my "if it sucks, hit the bricks" propaganda). What was the hobby you picked up and then dropped the fastest? The new years resolution (if you had them)? The book/show? And why?
I stopped playing videogames almost completely. I don't have time for them and the ones I've tried bcos people told me to were a letdown.
Tried LoL, hated every second. Tried Peak, had a real bad time... I kind of don't want to play any cooperative game with some specific people because of that.
