From bright blue to pale pink; the sky dimmed as Yamato’s phone counted the half-hour train ride from her home to the town centre, afternoon transitioned to evening and with that - the breeze that drifted past her from the partially open window grew brisker. Like many around her, she stood bundled in a thick coat and scarf, braced for the onset of Winter. It snowed heavily that morning, the roofs still painted white across the landscape.
It had been chilly all day yet now she felt warm, watching the blurred horizon with a quiet excitement for her stop, a soft smile behind the lilac wool of her scarf.
Finally the moment came for her to weave her way towards the doors, huddled amongst the small crowd as she stepped onto the platform. While usually she would have found the close contact of strangers stifling, all she could focus on -- all she could think about -- was seeing him. And the world didn’t seem so stifling anymore.
Her pace towards the substation entrance was fast enough for others to take notice but she could barely care, intent on reaching their meeting spot as quick as her legs would allow (which was slower than she liked). She used to wonder if she’d get used to it; the way her heart beat in anticipation for him, then refused to stop once it saw him. In a way she had gotten used to it; in a way that felt comfortable, in a way that felt like coming home.
She descended down the small flight of stairs then turned a corner. The second she caught sight of him (which was easy -- his figure standing out amongst the crowd), pink cheeks dimpled at the corners of a beaming grin and she waved a gloved hand, yelling (with no amount of inhibition);
“Takeo-kun!”
