did I accidentally start up the golem discussion by mentioning the cats in the coliseum? I just called them that because that's what the game calls them, I didn't think anything deeper of it, sorry if I was using a misappropriated word

Some of the things i've seen letting slip in these asks about the golem discussion... I just want to remind you all that Judaism is a closed culture that you can convert into. WOTC started a lot of this antisemitism and appropriation by taking the terms golem, phylactery, etc (you can debate on how much of this was intentional but they do have a history of fairly direct antisemitism and racism). Members of a marginalized group are allowed to have contradicting opinions, and as a Jewish person I'll quote the joke about Two Jews Three Opinions; everyone else should just please take the path of least harm and try to use the language and terms that most appropriately fit what they're talking about in any case.
I'm rambling. Just... try to be kind.
ABSOLUTELY no hate to anyone but I did not expect people here to mostly be Jewish considerimg I used to think FR's population are mostly Americans born Christian.

The wors animagraph in the comments about what to rename golems is so fucking good. Im gonna use it for my FR lore for the cats and other robots i have.
/gen question: Before I knew the history and cultural significance of golems, I felt like "golem" was a good way to differentiate between a mechanical creation and an animated sculpture. My clan has several and since I'm not Jewish, I'd like to find a different term. "Automaton" and "robot" feel mechanical and "elemental" doesn't imply purposeful creation imo. Any suggestions?
