Congratulations to Phil Mickelson, who made history today by becoming the oldest major champion by winning the 2021 PGA Championship today at the age of 50 years, 11 months. He will be 51 on June 16th. This was his 6th Major Championship!! He shares his birthday with Old Tom Morris who was 46 years, 3 months when he won the 1867 Open. Julius Boros was 48 years, 4 months when he became the 1968 PGA Champ and Jack Nicklaus won the 1986 Masters at the age of 46 years, 2 months. Today is Ben Hogan’s birthday. He would have been 106. Gary Player was long an admirer of Ben Hogan and the two tie for 4th all time Major Championships, both having 9 Majors. Hogan is also a fellow member of the Grand Slam club, an elite group of only 5 men: Gene Sarazen, Hogan, Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods. Pictured above are the first 4 members with Tiger to join years later. 

Included above is a newspaper clipping from 1958 quoting Ben Hogan, already established as one of the greatest golfers, praising the young Gary Player recently arrived in the US.
