Countdown to departure – 5 days
A dull listless day. It was raining when I woke so deferred rising until gone 10am. To Beltway Plaza for an $8.00 hair cut followed by Dart Drug for a spare car key.
Back to Greenbelt and with the oil still warm in the car I began the process of draining it from the engine. Whilst the last drops dribbled I had lunch. The day’s mail brought correspondence from Windham Hill, the Hollywood based record label that I have been doing voluntary PR for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windham_Hill_Records Of my hoped for job offer there was nothing other than a thank you for my efforts.
Cloud continued to dominate during the day so I stayed indoors. With money tight I cannot really justify any unnecessary expense. All that I have must go towards financing the trip. I am excited and apprehensive in equal measure, keen to get going but hoping that it will all work out. By 3pm the old oil had drained, so in went the new. I also changed the air and oil filters. So simple is the engine’s design that a relative novice can do rudimentary maintenance.
Watched coverage of the final round of the US Open golf tournament from Oakmont, Pennsylvania which Larry Nelson won by one stroke from Tom Watson. It was a deserved win.
Dad phoned in the early evening to fill me in on arrangements. Dave is back in Wolverhampton and raring to go but like me he’s apprehensive. He flies into Baltimore Washing International (BWI) on Friday around 7pm. Some time later I drove over to the Groves’ house to return their belongings (loaned to me when I first arrived); a lamp stand and various bits of crockery. Things are coming to a close.
