It's later, infodump about spider demon lore pls🕷️
Okay I fished taxes @-@ owed money so bare with me and my scrambled brain.
*rubs hands together* okay! So picking up from what @network-warrior-01 was saying about some spiders eating their mates. This was actually a problem for spider demons in ancient times making it hard for thire population grow due to a curse inflicted on them by humans that would sometimes drive spider demons mad and kill thire mates after a mating mark. (This is about a 50/50 )
That is untill one of the ancient spider demon came up with a solution to get around this curse. She created a new kind of magic, inspired by the webs they weave she invinted the soul bind contract. This circumvated the curse allowing for mated pairs to make a deal to not kill each other and in a way that override the curse allowing two souls to be mates to each other without being effected by the curse.
The spider clan declared this young spider thire queen for helping them finally overcome the curse and this was the first in the long line of spider queens. It became a tradition that you would have to have the queens blessing to be mates and she would preform the ritual to bind the souls together. (These contracts actually go both ways)
However as time went on and the spider clan was pushed underground by demon hunter humans, soul bind contracts became something that became a weapon rather than a tradition. A power hungry queen wanted to bind all her subjects to her so she could force them into a last stand against the humans.
That spider queen was actually Queenie's grandmother.
The last stand against the humans of course failed and the spider clan was driven deeper underground because of it. Queenie's grandmother died and the knowledge of soul bind contranst died with her. Many years passed after that and the numbers of the spider clan contounes to dwindle, now without an ability to override the curse, and now humans hunting spiders further into extinction, there is now only the handful of spider demons remain.
