Day 7: Moving Day

Spider Queen was waiting outside the entrance to the nest.

"I just want to talk to her," she cooed as Spindrax stared her down. "Just a nice little chat, okay!"

"Auntie, you can't just-!"

"It's fine, Spinny!" Long Xiaojiao interrupted, her cheeks slightly aching from her smile. It took work to reveal all her teeth. Spider Queen didn't seem to care, baring her own teeth in a too-wide, too-sweet grin. "I'll be right here!"

Spindrax stared at them for a few seconds before she sighed. "Fine. But I'm watching you." 

She aimed the last sentence at the queen, who waved her off before pulling Xiaojiao deeper into the shadows. She tensed at the tight grip around her bicep, but she refused to be cowed. Her smile dropped. So did Spider Queen's smile as she raised herself up, looming over her.

"I'm watching you," she hissed softly. "Dating my niece is one thing. Taking her out of the nest and living with her? That's another thing." Xiaojiao refused to point out that Spindrax had moved out a while ago and only recently started living with her aunt as the queen drew closer, her green eyes gleaming. "One sign. One sign that she's unhappy, one sign that you're hurting her, one sign…and I will take her back here before I kill you."

Xiaojiao scoffed, leaning forward. "You can try." The demon growled lightly before she decided to throw her a bone. "But, I'll keep that in mind. Deal?"

Spider Queen's growl faded. Instead, she huffed, leaning back. "Fine."

Xiaojiao bit back a laugh as she moved to help Spindrax and the rest of their family load up her girlfriend's stuff.

It wasn't until they were packed up and Xiaojiao was driving the van that Spindrax finally say, "So, what did she want?"

"Who?"

"My aunt. The queen. Whichever you want."

"Oh. She was giving me a shovel talk."

"Seriously?"

"Yeah," Xiaojiao laughed. "She wanted to let me know that, despite you moving out, she had an eye on me."

"I've been moved out for years."

"I think it's sweet."

"Hm. Maybe."

Xiaojiao felt another laugh escape her, letting her thoughts instead turn to unpacking boxes and debating decor.

They were going home, after all.
