Recap of episode 125 (week 25, episode 5) of Funassyi no Funafunafu na Biyori. Festival time!

Funassyi arrives fashionably late for a big Pear Fairy Festival. He’s so excited that he sprays everyone with Pear Juice Bushaa! Nashigami-sama tells him to calm down a bit, and then gets on the podium to make a speech about the festival and how important it is for all pear fairies. Then, he makes it rain...with hulahoops! Everyone gets wiggling...and hula-ing!

Notes:

I think this is the first episode set in the Pear Fairy World rather than the human world, except for episode 1.

Just about all the pear fairies that have appeared on the series are in the crowd - Guressyi, Nashigami-sama, the Gonassyi brothers, Chanassyi, Nashimaru, the PEAR♡S, and Nancy from New York (note how she’s wiping the pear juice from Nashigami-sama in the 5th screenshot). Even the little toddler pear that got lost in the pear orchard is there (2nd screenshot, top right).

Guressyi appeared on all 5 episodes this week.

The graphic of the map of Japan on the right side is a tsunami warning graphic - not related to the show. (There was a tsunami warning issued for most of the Pacific Ocean side of Japan, as a result of the earthquake in Chile. The warning was cancelled in the late afternoon.)

Funassyi did tweet to his followers to be careful and take necessary tsunami precautions, in his role as a special tsunami-preparedness safety team member.

Recap of episode 94 (week 19, episode 4) of Funassyi no Funafunafu na Biyori. Funassyi goes skiing!

Funassyi is at a ski resort. He’s doing fine since his athletic ability is unparalleled, but One-san, who normally is very agile, isn’t doing so well and can’t stop herself as she slides down a slope.

The Gonassyi brothers pop up suddenly out of the snow and Funassyi shouts at them to help One-san. The single-color brothers try, but then then Shimashimassyi just knocks everyone down. One-san is fine though.

Funassyi proposes to the Gonassyis that they play in the snow, and starts making a big snowman, but the Gonassyis want a snowball fight. It’s 5 against 1 so they quickly bury Funassyi in a huge snowball.

Exhausted and happy they’re all lying on the snow; One-san calls them to come into a kamakura (similar to an igloo) to have hot cocoa and warm up.

Notes:

An out-of-season episode, but maybe looking at snow and ice is cooling right now in Japan, where the temperatures are in the mid to high 30s C (95-100 degrees F and more)!

The Gonassyis make their 2nd appearance in a row.

A kamakura looks like an Inuit igloo, but it’s not a copy of an igloo - there has been a tradition of making snow huts like that in Akita prefecture in northern Japan for hundreds of years. They were built as small Shinto shrines to Mizugami-sama (the water god) during the winter months. Niigata prefecture, which also gets lots of snow in the winter, also has a tradition of making kamakura. Nowadays kamakura are popular at ski resorts or any place that gets lots of snow as fun places to hang out in, as in this episode, but the Shinto ritual of making kamakura is still carried out in some towns.

Recap of episode 54 (week 11, episode 4) of Funassyi no Funafunafu na Biyori. Nashigami-sama (the Pear God) and Gonassyi too!

Nashigami-sama (the Pear God) comes down to Earth for the first time in a while, but he doesn’t hang on to his walking stick and it gets lost. And who should come over from Pear Fairy Land too ...the Gonassyi quintuplets. Funassyi proposes that they all look for Nashigami-sama’s stick. However, everyone has a problem with what exactly they should be looking for. They come up with an umbrella, a cucumber, a toothpick, a shovel, and ask Nashigami-sama if it’s his stick. It turns out Nashigami-sama is actually a sarcastic comedian so he makes a comment about each one (e.g. about the toothpick “Oh yes, I love a walking stick that’s so small, plus I can use it to clean my teeth after eating...NOT!”) Shimashima, the striped Gonassyi, somehow finds a big stripey stick, but that’s not it either. All the time the real stick is stuck in the roof of the Pear Hut.

Note:

This is only the 3rd Nashigami-sama appearance, but since it seems more pear fairies will be making their way to Earth now, he may come and visit more often. It’s the second appearance of the Gonassyi quintuplets.
