The weather was sunny and warm for a change today in the greater Tokyo area, so I took Guressyi for an ohanami (cherry blossom viewing) excursion. The Pink One’s color matched well with the flowers. The cherry blossoms are at their height in this area now, although rain is predicted for tomorrow.

Recap of episode 128 (week 26, episode 3) of Funassyi no Funafunafu na Biyori. Guressyi, please take care of Nyaossyi...

Funassyi contemplates his fading nashi energy, as Nyaossyi looks on worriedly. Funassyi tells Nyaossyi not to worry though, he’s going to ask someone to take care of her when he’s gone. Funassyi takes Nyaossyi to Guressyi’s hut, and without any explanation pushes the cat onto the surprised Guressyi and asks him to take her. He pushes Nyaossyi into Guressyi’s arms with a struggle, since Nyaossyi resists mightily, but finally manages it and runs away. Nyaossyi wriggles out of Guressyi’s arms and goes running after Funassyi, with Guressyi following. They find Funassyi with Nashigami-sama in the Pear Hut, and Guressyi finds out what’s happening. He is in shock, while Nyaossyi cries plaintively...

Today’s special opening is Nyaossyi. 

If the series is indeed gone forever, I don’t know which character (besides anime-Funassyi, who is so lovable in a different way from Real Funassyi) I’d miss the most...Nyaossyi or Guressyi..... ;_;

Recap of episode 125 (week 25, episode 5) of Funassyi no Funafunafu na Biyori. Festival time!

Funassyi arrives fashionably late for a big Pear Fairy Festival. He’s so excited that he sprays everyone with Pear Juice Bushaa! Nashigami-sama tells him to calm down a bit, and then gets on the podium to make a speech about the festival and how important it is for all pear fairies. Then, he makes it rain...with hulahoops! Everyone gets wiggling...and hula-ing!

Notes:

I think this is the first episode set in the Pear Fairy World rather than the human world, except for episode 1.

Just about all the pear fairies that have appeared on the series are in the crowd - Guressyi, Nashigami-sama, the Gonassyi brothers, Chanassyi, Nashimaru, the PEAR♡S, and Nancy from New York (note how she’s wiping the pear juice from Nashigami-sama in the 5th screenshot). Even the little toddler pear that got lost in the pear orchard is there (2nd screenshot, top right).

Guressyi appeared on all 5 episodes this week.

The graphic of the map of Japan on the right side is a tsunami warning graphic - not related to the show. (There was a tsunami warning issued for most of the Pacific Ocean side of Japan, as a result of the earthquake in Chile. The warning was cancelled in the late afternoon.)

Funassyi did tweet to his followers to be careful and take necessary tsunami precautions, in his role as a special tsunami-preparedness safety team member.

Recap of episode 93 (week 19, episode 3) of Funassyi no Funafunafu na Biyori. Guressyi wants a party!

It’s the anniversary of Guressyi’s arrival in the human world, and the Pink One really wants someone to throw him a party. Guressyi struts around the pear orchard muttering and hinting strongly, but everyone - Funassyi, Hina and Hayato; the pear orchard owners; and even the Gonassyi brothers - just seem to ignore him.

Discouraged, Guressyi sits at the stream for a while, but decides to try again. He sees everyone huddled in front of Funassy’s Pear Hut and thinks they’re going to have a party there - but when he approaches, they all scuttle away.

Guressyi is convinced that no one is going to throw him a party - because, he’s Guressyi (and no one likes him). Tears are welling up in Guressyi’s eyes, when suddenly a kusudama opens up above him! Everyone is there - they are throwing him a party after all. Guressyi starts to respond with his usual “I don’t care” attitude, but Nyaossyi meows at him with a smile...and Guressyi can’t resist smiling back, as everyone cheers and claps. Happy anniversary Guressyi!

Notes:

The Real Funassyi tweeted that Guressyi looks like Moomin in this episode. He kind of does... ^_^

A kusudama is sort of like a Japanese version of a piñata except that the container, which is usually shaped like a ball,  just opens up with the pull of a string or something. A banner with a message on it usually drops down along with some confetti, streamers, even little origami cranes and so on, and so on. A kusudama used to be used in Shinto rituals to scatter fragrant powder, but nowadays it’s used for all kinds of festive occasions. This isn’t a clear screen shot, but here’s what dropped out of the kusudama at Guressyi’s party.

Recap of episode 68 (week 14, episode 3) of Funassyi no Funafunafu na Biyori. Guressyi loves Nyaossyi!

Guressyi has gotten a bell on a pretty pink and yellow collar for Nyaossyi, and he’s ecstatic, imagining how cute Nyaossyi will look with it on. He can’t wait to give it to Nyaossyi. He skips off to Funassyi’s Pear Hut to give it to the kitty of his heart. He spies in from the window as usual, and sees her napping (the nassyi vacuum robot is whirring along as usual) and that Funassyi isn’t home. Now’s his chance! But...he doesn’t have the collar - where is it?

Just then, Funassyi comes home and finds the collar on the ground. He asks Guressyi what it is, and the pink one hurriedly scoffs “Isn’t it obvious? It’s Nyaossyi’s!” - not confessing that he brought it for her.

Puzzled, Funassyi goes in and puts it around Nyaossyi’s neck. He wonders how Nyaossyi got it in the first place, but she looks so cute in it that he decides to just go with it. In the meantime, Guressyi looks in the window, happy at how cute Nyaossyi looks with the collar on. Nyaossyi is perfectly aware of Guressyi, and preens for him with a smile.

Note:

Saki Ono, the voice actress who plays Nyaossyi, also provides the voices (or the...whirr?) of the Nassyi Vacuum Robot, Nashira the dinosaur, and the sounds for various other unspecified characters on the series.

Recap of episode 59 (week 12, episode 4) of Funassyi no Funafunafu na Biyori. Guressyi on a Thursday?! Plus the Pear God returns!

Nashigami-sama (the Pear God) asks Funassyi to take photos of his life in the human world, and hands him a Funassyi colored smartphone. Guressyi is peeking in the window, and plans to jump in every time Funassyi is taking a photo so that the pear fairies back home can see how cool Guressyi is. As Funassyi goes around town, school and so snapping photos, Guressyi runs in and jumps into each one. Funassyi goes back to his Pear Hut and shows Nashigami-sama the pictures he took....but every one has a blurry pink thing in it, which looks like a ghost or something!

Notes:

I think this is the first time Guressyi has appeared on a day other than Wednesday. Maybe he’s getting more popular. The story made more sense with Guressyi though rather than the Gonassyi brothers for instance.

Although the smartphone Funassyi is using is probably some kind of special Pear Fairy version, you Funassyify your regular human smartphone by putting a Funassyi case on it. This case for the iPhone 5/5s may be the one that looks most like the phone Funassyi is using, and is available on Amazon.
