Haq Se | Episode 5 | Gone Viral
Episode 4 recap here. Character-Cast breakdown here.
Meher & Naushad, Drunken Debauchery
→ We pick up where we left off in Episode 4. (Accidentally) Drunk and disheveled, Meher's sitting on the front porch of Azi's house when she sees a blurry, shadowy, figure walk towards her. → "Dr. Khadoos???" Is Naushad really at Azi's party? Workaholic Dr. Rizvi at an actual party where people come to have fun?
Ironic that although Meher calls him "khadoos," the visual of Naushad we see (through Meher's hazy gaze) is that of a kind-faced, concerned man walking measuredly towards her.
→ Meher's confused. She rattles off the side-effects of eating too many chillies, but ‘hallucinating the boss you detest’ is definitely not on her list. She stumbles towards Naushad, pokes him with her finger to make sure he's indeed real.
LOL @ Naushad's bemused look.
→ "You're not hallucinating, Dr. Mirza. Main yahaan Ghulam saab se milne aaya hoon." → "You are drunk" he says half-exasperatedly, half-jokingly.
AHAHAH he takes pleasure in saying this to her. How could he let go of a chance to pick on her idiosyncrasies??
→ "Main aapko bata doon, ki main ek shaf... shafree...shafff...." Poor Meher, she can't even complete her sentences.
→ "SHAREEF" Naushad offers an assist.
Meher's trying SO hard to redeem herself, and yet, the word she stumbles on while trying to convince Naushad of her sobriety is "shareef!"
Irony just died.
→ "Sab jaante hain ki aapka khaandan kitna shareef hai."
UGH Naushad, why you gotta be a judgemental prick?
Do you really have to take shots at her family when she's so drunk and vulnerable?
→ Somehow Naushad's biting comment flies past Meher. It doesn't register. To prove her family’s “sharafat”, she starts talking about about how good, generous they are. → Colonel Mirza had a unani medicine factory that was burned to the ground during the 2016 riots, presumably by Indian forces during counter-insurgency operations. And yet, Mr. Mirza was out protecting, serving and tending to Indian troops. That's how "shareef" the Mirza family is!
→ Meher briefly breaks down when talking about her mother, "Kitni akeli hain ammi." → Seeing her cry, Naushad asks, "Are you fine, Dr. Mirza?"
What do you think, Rizvi?? Does she look fine? Do people cry and go on drunk tirades when they're "fine?"
→ "Kyun? Gareeb log 'shafreek' nahi ho sakte?" → Naushad briefly considers correcting her, but recognizes she's too far gone. Not a good time for Urdu lessons. → "Main ek pediatric surgeon ban sakti thi." Naushad realizing that Meher's about to quit her job in a drunken overdrive, hastily asks her if he can take her to her family.
As much as Naushad picks on her, and nags her, he doesn't think she's a bad doctor. Meher's peculiar, but she's not incompetent. Naushad must know this in his bones, or he'd have fired her by now.
There is some tenderness/kindness in the way he asks "Aap kahen toh main kissi ko bulaa doon?"
Also, the way he looks around, it’s like he's worried someone else is going to see Meher in her inebriated state, and he wants to keep clear of trashy gossip.
→ She then talks of Jannat. "Woh bhi shaheed ho jayegi." Just like khala's love story.
This could be some ominous foreshadowing 😨
“Shaheed” could be a reference to Jannat's life. Or in reference to her passion. Maybe Jannat will have to let go of her love (for journalism)?
→ Naushad looks really worried and disturbed by Meher's comments. → But just when you think this scene is going to turn into a melodramatic, weepy one, Meher jibes Naushad with a, "Humaari sharaafat toh aapse thodi kam hai.....kaafi kum hai!" (As in, she sarcastically says that she and her family deserve all the nastiness coming their way because they're not as "shareef" as Naushad-type people.)
YAAAS she said sharaafat without faflao-ing 😂 🙌
Also, the way Naushad looks at Meher here! He has literal 😍😍😍
Even when she's sad and vulnerable, Meher is still a firebrand. And maybe that reminds Naushad that's there's no pretense about her; she's real and candid.
→ Lastly, she tells him to stop insulting her family. Enough is enough.
I really hope Naushad stops with his snide comments now that he knows what her family's been through.
This is the most honest, vulnerable she's been. Though unintentionally, she did open her heart to him.
→ With some serious bluster and flourish, he waves her job good bye. "Apni 'sha-feek' naukri aap apne paas rakhiye." → LOL but just as she's saying "I quit" she pukes all over Naushad's shoes.
LORRRD I'm 15 different types of embarrassed for her.
→ Naushad is surprisingly nice to her. He doesn't yell or insult her (as one'd expect). He helps her back to her feet, hands her a hand-kerchief, and even offers medical advice (take an antacid!). → He tells her he rejects her resignation (and her rejection of his rejection 🙄😂). "Aapki ammi aur aapke beheno ko aapki aamdani ki zaroorat hai."
LOL
So he's keeping her around as an intern only because her family needs it.
Solely altruistic reason. RIGGGGHT.
→ "8.30 am sharp tomorrow at the hospital!"
Whatta scene 👏👏👏
Both the actors were pitch perfect 😘
