Just a couple of weeks before Prince died, I was sitting at the piano in my room at HGS Music and was feeling all "Purple Rain"-y. I would never have fathomed he would be honest soon afterwards. Watching this takes me back to seeing the Purple Rain Tour as it hit Chicago in December 1984. My friends and I were seated in the upper level behind the stage. The show was completely mind blowing. Prince had amazing energy as he cavorted around the stage, jumping from speakers and his piano. We were looking directly on the backline of Lisa Coleman, Bobby Z, and Dr. Fink. Two weeks later, I got my first keyboard for Christmas. I commenced to teach myself songs from "1999" and "Purple Rain". I knew that I wanted to make music myself so I began to learn by ear because I knew Prince did. 31 years later, I am recording my own music and teaching others in developing their talents. Two weeks ago today, we lost my biggest musical inspiration. That sucks!! But I will always appreciate his role in getting to this place in my journey. 💔💜 #prince #restinpurple #gonetoosone #icon #musicalinspirations
