Hopefully I'm not going too far into spoilertown but can we have a bit more on Briony's mysterious sword? Does it have a name? Does it talk back to her? Does it appear or do anything special or is its value mostly personal? Caine: Is it as cool as Blade's!?
Hi there! These are spoilers, so I’ll be vague (sorry!) but I really appreciate the questions!
1) Briony’s sword’s name is Gonturan, as a shameless homage to one of my favorite novels ever, The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley!
2) I’ll leave it up to you and your MC to decide if the sword actually talks back to her or not (she claims it does ‘in its own way’, and if you’re an Astrigai (Binder), you can look it into it yourself)
3) It glows, catches fire, crackles with lightning, and flies to her hand when summoned, but this is fairly standard for magical weapons--Red’s hammer does at least one of these, too! There are other significant/powerful things Gonturan can do, but I’ll leave that for the story to reveal... Most notably, nobody can actually pick up the sword without being burned, except for Briony!
4) It depends on your aesthetic! The sword looks a bit like this but as a one-handed weapon:
...with a white blade and a pommel stone whose color I haven’t decided yet!
