a/n: forgot to cross-post the last couple bonus chapters… (`_´)ゞ this can be read on its own!!
It slowly startled to become more apparent. The bruises, the cast on his arm, the pain he'd feel whenever he lay down.
Yet you wanted to wait. Wait for him to talk to you, wanting not to pry and get unnecessarily mad at each other, even if it was necessary.
Reki noticed it immediately: the hesitant touches to his body, how you never hugged him super tight like you used to, and how your eyes lingered on the bruising skin of his arms.
He realizes now that he'd have to come clean, that he couldn't hide his frequent visits at S anymore now that he has you worrying for him.
It's quiet in your bedroom. For the most part, at least, your cd player is on, yet the music you play is still soft. "Hey, Y/n," Reki whispers, finding your hand under the covers. "I need to tell you something."
"What's wrong?" Worry picks at your chest, yet you try your best to keep a poker face to show indifference. "Are you okay?"
He nods, sitting up against your headboard. "I know you see the bruises I get, and that you don't necessarily believe the reason my arm's broken. I just didn't know if I could tell you the truth."
You sit up beside him, rubbing your thumb over his knuckles. "I'm listening."
"Right, you always are." He smiles, nodding his head with his words. "It's nothing... at home, you know my family." You nod. "I like skating, you know." A slower nod comes from you, confusion setting in as you try to piece together what little information you're getting.
"There's this place. It– it's called S. I know it's kind of a dumb name, but–" he cuts himself off, sighing when he looks at you. "It's where people go to skate, there's a course, and sometimes you can challenge other skaters to a race."
"I did one the other day, and I lost real bad." He laughs at his own words, and you realize he'll never get over his own self-doubt. "I broke my arm 'cause I landed on it, so what I told you wasn't all a lie."
"Is it dangerous?"
He nods, avoiding your eyes. "Sometimes, yeah." You nod your head, looking down at your hands. "I don't want you to think I'm actively seeking harm or anything. I just– I'm really unlucky."
"If there's any problems, you'll tell me?" He nods. You aren't convinced at all. "I'm not going to ask you to stop going, so don't worry about that." He nods again. "I just hate seeing you in pain."
"I'm okay. I can take it."
"Just because you can take it doesn't mean you should, Reki." He agrees silently, letting go of your hand to run his fingers through his hair. "I'm sorry if I pulled away from you." He tilts his head in confusion. "I was scared of hurting you, so I stopped hugging you."
"Oh." He says. He knew that already. "Right. It's okay."
The next few minutes are silent. Reki is slowly growing restless at the lack of communication, while your anxiety begins to grow at the information.
You begin to shift. Reki follows your movements to lie down but stops when you lift your hand to his chest. He looks at you, confused, and his breath shallows when your fingers latch onto the hem of his shirt.
"Will you show me?" Even in the darkness of your room, Reki's reddening face was visible. His lips pressed into a straight line as he nodded, and reached over to turn on the lamp. Yet you shake your head, "I need you to tell me it's okay. With words."
Reki's heart is beating out of his chest at the end of your sentence. What was supposed to be a normal thing suddenly turned different for him with just a few words.
"It's okay." He says, voice wavering as he guides both of your hands to his shirt. "You can see."
His hands shake as they follow yours in lifting his shirt over his head, and the breath he lets out is less than steady.
"You promise me you're okay?" You whispered, fingers lightly tracing every bruise that littered his skin.
"They hurt." He says quietly, there's no reason for him to be dishonest in this situation. "But the pain will pass." His heart stops when your eyes focus on the bruise on his chest, holding his breath once more when you lean closer to it.
The moment your lips press against his skin, his world stops. The music fades from his ears and is replaced by his pulsating heart, and his chest falls rapidly when your hand rests on his thigh.
Reki doesn't stop you when you begin to peck each of his bruises, his breathing has slowed, and he's found your hand to hold to keep him steady.
He tries to keep his heart still, even with the situation at hand, the new feelings wafting in the air, and the uncertainty of your next move. "Y/n," he starts, quiet and smiling. "I love you."
The tension between you thickened, and fear instilled in his heart at his words. "You don't have to say it back." He whispers. It's light and blends into the music that plays. "Just know that I love you a lot."
A light kiss is pressed to his cheek. His eyelids fluttered shut at the softness of it all. "I'm glad we met, Reki." He smiles, a thin line, but there's love seeping through. "I love you more."
He shakes his head, bumping it against yours by accident, and falls into a fit of giggles when you mutter a curse by reflex. "I'm sorry." He says between laughs, placing his hands on your shoulders, rubbing them gently. "I didn't realize how close you were."
You hum, feigning annoyance as you look at him. He raises a brow when your arms wrap around his shoulders and groans softly when you pull him down against you.
With his head resting on your shoulder, upper body seemingly trapped under your arms, he sighs loudly at your next words.
"Melt with me. You're my hostage for the night."
His arm snakes around your waist, fingers softly tapping against your skin. "Just for tonight or every night?"
"Every night." You respond, kissing his forehead, "You're mine." He hums, bumping his head against yours, "Goodnight."
DESC : ̗̀➛ when the new school year starts, reki meets his seatmate for the remainder of the year, you. then with a school project on both of your hands, and spending almost every minute together, the fondness you share for each other begins to change to something different.
“I just want you to know,” The teacher starts, folding their arms over their chest. “That I am heavily amused by what I’m seeing right now.”
You blink at him, the low humming of Reki’s inflatable costume being the only sound in the hallway. “No idea what you’re talking about.” The gray mustache over your lips moves with every word, and your teacher sighs in response, waving their hand at you to start.
The classroom had gone silent the moment you rushed in with a briefcase in hand, stifling laughter when your teacher followed behind you with an exhausted expression. Hands and briefcase slamming against the desk, you stare at your classmates.
“Aliens!” You’d shouted, straightening your posture immediately with your words as you began to pace the classroom, walking down the rows and staring at your classmates. “Do you believe in them?”
Murmurs of no and shouts of yes follow your question, a debate already starting between two seatmates with differing opinions.
Reki pops in a moment later, almost literally, when he brushes against the door's latch. “You don’t believe in me?” He asks, tone mirroring an actor after betrayal. The class laughs at his distraught face, dropping their heads to hide it.
“Now,” you say, slapping Reki in the chest, the costume denting in the spot. “I crave chaos.” A Cheshire grin makes its way to your face, the corners of your lips dropping immediately at the sound of your teacher clearing their throat.
With a roll of your eyes and an exasperated sigh, you lean against the desk, slapping reki again. “The existence of aliens has been questioned many times, from possible UFO sightings to the downright alien sightings themselves.”
“But there’s one question that never seems to have an answer,” Reki adds, nodding to you in approval. “What color are aliens?”
Your teacher’s expression drops lowly, a hand dragging over their face as you continue. “Obviously, there’s no scientific evidence that aliens are all one color; green, for example.” You say, gesturing towards Reki.
“What we want to happen, this’ll be an interactive part,” Reki informs, “If you look around the walls, you’ll see four different answers.” Heads turn at the sentence, low murmuring about how over the top the project was. “Whichever statement is true for you, stand on that side of the wall.”
Your teacher takes the opportunity to sit in the middle of the class, leaning back in the chair to look at the both of you. “Don’t believe in aliens, professor?”
They shake their head, “I’m here to evaluate, not participate.”
“Boring.” The single word set them off, reluctantly shuffling to the corner where the ‘unsure’ section was. “Can you tell us why you chose that answer, professor?”
“No.”
Your eyes narrow, and the class mumbles out with stifled laughter about your never-ending rivalry with the teacher. “Alright then.”
By the end of the school day, you’re sure your teacher’s vendetta against you has deepened. The low hum of Reki’s costume fills your ears as it deflates, the sound being the only noise in the empty hallway.
“I think we did a good job,” Reki says, turning around so you could unzip him. “I don’t think I’ve ever talked to our classmates for that long, like ever.”
“That’s pretty sad to think about, isn’t it?” You ask, holding the suit as he steps out. “Are we friendless losers?”
The question was rhetorical, but Reki can’t help but scoff at it, “Of course not, we just… don’t click with others that well.” There’s a beat of silence that hangs over you like a veil, and he’s quick to shake his head with a smile. “But it’s fine. We have each other.”
You hum, “Whether I like it or not.” Reki huffs at your comment, smiling when you look at him. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you in all black.”
“Are you checking me out?”
“Yeah.”
He shakes his head, laughing softly at you. “You’re ridiculous.”

REKI
Your first kiss with him was an accident. He hadn't meant to kiss you in the beginning. His lips brushed against yours just the slightest, but it still left his heart aching for more than just a simple graze.
You'd tilted your head up simultaneously as him, eyes locked as they touched. Neither of you moved away, seemingly stuck in that position. He mutters a quiet "Sorry." When he pulls back, looking at you through hooded eyes.
"Can I," he swallows his words when you look at him, ignoring the rush of heat to his face when you do. "Can we do that again?"
You bite back a laugh before nodding.
LANGA
He'd planned it. The moment he asked you to race against him the bet of, "Kiss me if I win." Fell from his lips like a prophecy.
Lo and behold, Langa finds himself slumped over like a fool. He'd lost. When you make your way toward him, he straightens out like it didn't mean anything to him. Like you should be upset you didn't lose.
He feels his cheeks heat up when you kiss the corner of his mouth unexpectedly. Lips parted from shock, heart beating rapidly in his chest when you smile at him.
HIROMI
It was unexpected. When it happened, he assumed it was because the worry and the sterile hospital smell clouded your judgment. Definitely not because you were in love with him.
Your hands were holding his cheeks softly, thumbs caressing the apples of his cheeks. A metallic taste filled his mouth when his tongue grazed your lip, you were chewing on it when you arrived.
And when you stumble back, he catches your wrist. Hushing you when you start apologizing, telling you that it was fine. That he was okay with you kissing him, so long as you were.
KAORU
It was long overdue. Through years of pining, back and forth bantering, and bickering. What was once thought to be one-sided love from both sides was something long overdue.
He was frantic, a characteristic rarely paired with Kaoru. His teeth had hit yours, nimble fingers had dug into the skin of your cheeks. It was desperate.
"Sorry," he whispers, a slight rasp in his voice. "Sorry, I didn't hurt you did I?"
You shake your head no and move to catch his lips again.
KOJIRO
He says it was accidental, though everyone within the area could tell he planned it. His arm was loosely wrapped around your waist, palm flat on the table you stood over.
Your attention was set on the chemistry lab in front of you, focused on the bubbling reaction within the beaker while simultaneously slapping Kojiro's chest, nagging him to take notes.
He'd leaned his body so his chin was level with your shoulder, and the minute his breath fanned against your skin, you'd turned, lips grazing against his.
"Sorry." You fumbled over your words as you attempted to back away—hand covering your mouth as you silently cursed him for blocking any exit with his arm.
"Don't be," he'd said, smiling when your shoulders relaxed, your body shifting slightly into his. "Just kiss me properly next time."
OKA
It happened out of the blue on a random Tuesday. He'd always hoped the first kiss you two would share would be through some elaborate, romantic date. Not when he was leaving for work.
A fond smile made its way to his face when you'd sat up in bed just as he exited the bedroom, backtracking his steps to press a light kiss to your forehead. He'd leaned down when you prompted him to, not thinking anything of it at all.
And when your lips meet him in a soft kiss, he becomes putty in your arms. His hands came to rest on either side of your neck, thumbs inches from your jaw, rubbing the warm skin under it.
DESC : ̗̀➛ when the new school year starts, reki meets his seatmate for the remainder of the year, you. then with a school project on both of your hands, and spending almost every minute together, the fondness you share for each other begins to change to something different.
A new school year, new classes, new classmates, and new faces.
Reki felt like he was going to hurl.
The overwhelming amount of people shoving themselves into him on accident (and on purpose) has his head spinning. The welcome assembly the principals thought was a good idea had been bent out of shape when an obnoxious delinquent starts yelling about pride.
What a great start to the new school year.
His heart pounds in his chest as he nears his homeroom class, huffing out a puff of air as he stares at the seating chart displayed on the screen.
Y/n L/n? I've never heard of them before...
Reki's eyes drift over to his table, pulse slowing when he sees you already seated.
"My name is Reki Kyan ." He says, holding his hand out for you to take. "I look forward to working with you this year."
A laugh escapes you at his formalities. You give him a smile as you slide your hand into his, shaking it once, you've got a firm grip. "Nice to meet you Reki , I'm Y/n L/n." He drops your hand after a moment, awkwardly standing at the foot of your desk. "You can also drop the formalities, Reki. We're the same age after all."
"Right." He murmurs, sliding into the seat beside you. "Um, have you always gone to this school?" He asks, "It's just, I've never seen you before."
You hum, "I've been here. I just tend to blend in with the crowd." Reki 's mouth fell open, he was so sure that you were a new student. "I—" you laugh lightly at his expression. "is it really that shocking?"
He shakes his head hurriedly, he didn't want to offend you. "Of course not, I'm usually aware of everyone but you..." he trails off as he gets a proper look at you, heat rising up his neck when your lips part. "You took me completely by surprise."
"Well," you start, shutting your book closed. "I hope that doesn't hurt your image of me, whatever it may be." The smile you give him makes his heart pound, for a reason he couldn't explain. "I hope we can be good friends, Reki ."
Reki nods, "Yeah." His tongue juts out to run over his dry lips. "Me too."

“Okay,” Reki says, hands hovering above your waist. “Let’s try dropping in now.”
Your gaze shifts between Reki and the decline in front of you. It’ll be fine, You thought, shaking your hands out. Reki does this all the time plus worse stuff.
“Alright, I’ll try to catch you this first time if you fall, okay?” His voice is quiet, gentle. Like he knows you're nervous just by the way you stand. “You’ll be great.”
“Okay,” you nodded, trusting his word. The back of your board was held snug against the edge of the ramp, your front foot shifting slowly to the tongue of the board. “Okay.”
The moment your weight was set on the front of the board, it flew under you, Reki acting fast to catch you before you fell with it.
His arms held you up by your armpits, pulling you to sit on the edge. “Well,” he says with a huff, “That could’ve gone better.”
You frowned at the face he gave you, sympathetic and masking dissatisfaction. Determination set course through your veins, whether trying to prove yourself or impress him, you were going to nail this.
Reki stutters when you slide down the ramp and collect your board before climbing back up, watching with nervous eyes as you line up again.
He cursed himself when you fell, knees scraping against the concrete, watching helplessly as you scurry to sit upright on your bottom.
The moment he hears a sniffle he’s sliding down, moving to sit in front of you. “Y/n, hey look at me,” he tries to grab your attention, but you’re only focused on your knees, blood slowly trickling down. “I’ll clean you up, don’t worry.”
Reki runs away to his backpack, rummaging through it and yelling out in triumph when he snags the first aid kit. When he returns to your side, he’s not surprised you’re trying to hide your tears, or that you’re even trying to stand upright again.
“Y/n, sweetheart it’s fine.” You turn your head to him at the pet name, a frown etched on your face. “No one’s going to get that down on the first go.”
His hands move to your waist when he sees your legs tremble, gently moving you to sit back on the ground. You watch carefully as he takes out antiseptic, tissues, and a box of bandages.
As if he sensed your panic the moment he drenched a tissue in alcohol, he offered his hand, pressing a chaste kiss to yours when you took it.
He counts down from three, whispering quiet praises when he pressed the tissue to your knee. It’s silent the rest of the time he cleans and bandages your wound. You know he has a question on the tip of his tongue but you don’t prompt it, waiting for him to say it on his own.
“Why’d you do it?”
There it is.
You shrug, “I just thought I could.” Your fingers pick at the bandaid he’d put on the lower part of your knee, stopping when his fingers circle your wrist.
“I know you don’t like fast motions, that’s why I wanted us to go slow,” Reki says quietly, messing with your fingers. “You don’t have to rush this, okay? You can take all the time you need.”
“Yeah,” you agree, looking down at the bandages. “Sorry.”
“Don’t apologize,” He shakes his head, craning his neck to look you in the eyes. He gives a soft smile, rubbing his thumb over your knuckles. “You were eager, I understand.”
You hum, moving to slump against him. “Thanks, Reki.”
His arms circle your shoulders, rubbing your back slowly. “Of course,” he pressed a chaste kiss to your head. “I love you.”

“I wanna kiss you,” Reki says, looking down at you with a dazed expression. He looks out of it, whether it was the lack of sleep, or the mounds of sugar he ate minutes ago catching up to him— Reki Kyan is saying what’s been on his mind like a drunk man speaking sober thoughts. “Play with your hair, show you off, kiss you.”
“Reki, what are going on about?” You ask, chuckling nervously when he falls in bed beside you, still keeping a distance.
“Wanna kiss you.” His eyes grew teary when he looked at you, hopelessness or fear, he’s sure it’s one of them. Maybe even both.
“Do you like me Reki?” You ask carefully, stretching your fingers toward him.
“I love you.” He answers, linking his fingers with yours. “I’m in love with you.”
Humming, a soft smile makes its way to your lips, “Then it’s alright.”
If he weren’t so desperate to kiss you, he would’ve been embarrassed about practically pouncing on you. But he supposed that was a thing for another day.
Why did he wait so long to kiss you? The way his body fit against yours, how his lips slotted perfectly with yours, and the giggles that escaped your lips when he leaned forward for more, was music to his ears.
He only pulls away when you tap his chest, a heavy blush on his face when he looks at your grin. “What?” He mumbled, hiding his face in your shoulder.
“Didn’t know you were into guys.”
He doesn’t see your face but he knows you’ve got a smug grin, “Shuddup.” He muttered, wrapping his arms around your waist. “Y/n?” You hum, fingers carding through his hair. “Let me take you out on a date.”

"Someone's coming over today."
Your grandpa turns his head at your words, nodding as you weave around him to get to the fridge. "Who?"
"My classmate." You answer, grabbing the jug of milk. "We're going to work on a project in my room." He nods, grabbing two spoons as you pour the milk over the two bowls of cereal he set out. "We'll try not to be too loud."
He shakes his head, "I'm not worried about the noise level, Y/n." He laughs, "You know my hearing isn't that sensitive."
"I know, just making sure." He smiles at your concern, patting your back as you scarfed down the rest of your breakfast. "I'll see you after school, yeah?"
He hums, "I'll make some sandwiches." You give him a thumbs up before turning on your heel to go to the door, sliding on your shoes, and grabbing your bag. "Have a good day."
"You too, grandpa!" You called out, rushing to catch the stoplight before it changed. You huffed when you reached the other side, looking down the hill when you heard mumbled curses and a loud thud.
Red tufts of hair enter your line of sight, your posture straightening when you realize it was Reki. "Hey, you okay?"
His head whips up to you at your voice, cheeks growing red, and mind left wondering if you'd seen him fall. "I'm fine. It happens all the time."
He walks up the hill, deck in hand, backpack slung haphazardly over his shoulder. "Your bags open." You tell him, standing behind him to zip the large pocket, ultimately sliding the bag off his shoulder to hold it.
"You don't have to–"
"It's okay." You smile, "I saw you fall. You landed on your shoulder." He covers his face with his hands when you tell him you'd witnessed his fall, embarrassed slews of words coming out. "It's alright." You chuckled, rubbing your hand against his back.
His hands slid off his face, the skin under his eyes being pulled as he looked at you. "It's embarrassing." You shrug. "I can't believe I've only known you for two weeks and already embarrassed myself."
"You already did something prior." He tilts his head. "Called me pretty, then avoided me like the plague?"
"No idea what you're talking about." He says, laughing when you shove his shoulder. "And I didn't avoid you. I was just...well, embarrassed." He laughed.
"You're such a dork."
Reki rolls his eyes but doesn't say anything about it, letting a comfortable silence take over as you walk to school.

"I can't believe we're in the second week of school and we already have a project assigned to us," Reki scoffs, rolling back and forth on his board like he was pacing. "I mean, we haven't even learned anything!"
Offering a chip– which he gladly accepts– you peek up at him, "I can do all of it if you want." You proposed, biting the corner of your own, "They did say it could be about anything and you've seen my notes, I'm sure I can manage it."
He shakes his head, stepping off his board and letting it roll as he sits beside you. "I don't wanna rely on you like that," he says, waving his foot back and forth. "I'd feel too guilty for making you do everything on your own."
"Okay," you said, tapping your fist against your leg. "Then let's find a common topic we're both interested in and go from there."
Silence wafts around the both of you as you think, neither of you saying a word for the next minute.
"This is pretty hard." You murmured, glancing at Reki from the corner of your eye. "Do we even have anything in common?" You laughed.
Reki tilts his head back in thought, staring up at the sky. "Do you like the ocean?" You hum, nodding your head after thinking. "Not so much to make a presentation about it?" You shake your head.
"Do you like space?" You tried, looking up at the clouds.
"I like aliens." He says, smiling when you let out an unconcealed laugh.
"We could use that," you say, covering your mouth when you'd smile. "Talk about the endless possibilities of what and who's out there."
Reki takes another chip after asking, plopping it into his mouth in one go as he says, "I bet people wouldn't expect it from you," you turn your head at him, a confused stare on your face. "I don't know, you just don't seem like the type to bother with something like that."
You shrug, "Regardless of, I don't really care about what other people think of me. It's annoying to think about." You say, closing your eyes when you feel a breeze. "I don't want to live to meet expectations, that's boring."
Reki hums, taking in your answer as he looks at you. Your eyes are still closed, thankfully, you look at peace, like nothing in this moment could ruin your mood. His lips curve up when you tilt your head further up at the slightest breeze, and he drinks in the way your eyes flutter open slowly, watching the sun cast a soft glow to them.
"You're really pretty."
Your head whips to him at his words, feeling your cheeks warm. "What?" He turns his head away, covering his face with his hands as embarrassment washes over him. You poke his face, "Reki."
"I said you're really pretty." He repeats, uncovering only half of his face. His eyes were set on yours, and you can tell that it's a genuine compliment.
"Thank you," you whisper, avoiding his gaze. "I think you're pretty too."
He turns away from you, face flushed red and cheeks hot to the touch as he covers them with his hands. He murmured a quiet 'thanks' and curses his heart for beating so fast at a compliment he had no trouble giving.
The ringing of the bell makes for an awkward getaway.
