i keeeeep discovering art challenges halfway through because no one called me on my big red rotary phone to tell me we were doing a month of birds 😔 so here are the first two weeks of birbfest2024 drawn tonight while binging a season of tv (and during breaks at the climbing gym) (and in the car on the way to climbing) (as a passenger!! calm down doves)

mostly i wanted to test out these colored micron brush pens, and threw some copic sketch markers down for some quick coloring. ever finish something and immediately want to redo it bc of how much you learned in the process?? yeahhh

it was a birding by silhouette kinda day

great blue heron i pulled off the road for, fish crows & reflections, tufted titmouse, turkey vulture, cedar waxwing, chickadee (most likely carolina buuut not sure)

i liked being able to see birds in the same pose from multiple angles (and for many of these, getting to see them at all), but this collection always gets me thinking about shrikes

ivory-billed woodpeckers 😢, wild turkey, himalayan monal, argus pheasant, superb lyrebird, copper and reeves pheasants, kingfishers (center: laughing kookaburra), greater racket-tailed drongo, hummingbirds (center: red-billed streamertail)

i basically only ever see green herons *thinking* about fishing, but look at this one-gulp champ!!!
