Steve gets a girl pregnant in college. She agrees to have the baby but doesn't want to raise it so at 21 he's a single Dad. His Dad wants to cut him off but his Mom gives him an allowance for her only grandbaby and tries to support the only way she knows how, by throwing money at the problem. The holidays always remind him of that first year. The baby girl is born in the beginning of December so that first year is tough. He had a small one bedroom apartment. The only person he lets in is Robin. Everyone else drops things off and wave through the window until the baby has her vaccinations. It's just him, Caroline and sometimes Robin. He loves Caroline more than anything. But with the isolation and sleep deprivation, he sinks into pretty bad postpartum depression and anxiety for a while. He gets out of it, things get better and things get really good when he meets Eddie when Caroline is around three. But the dark weather always makes him remember those dark few months.
