in relation to that writing/posting advice anon, I wanna contribute that the summary is really important -- when I see a fic with a huge chunk of text as the summary I always skip over it cause like, I don't wanna read all that! But then there are other times where the whole summary will just be like two lines of dialogue with zero context or something and that's way TOO little, it's just vague and not alluring, you gotta find a middle ground somewhere
i forgot about the summary entirely! yes summaries can’t be massive but unless you’ve got a total banger of a line, they shouldn’t be super short either
i think excerpts work WAY BETTER than trying to make a blurb like a book. they just do. i don’t want to read someone trying to sell me their fic, like a blurb would. i want to see what the writing is like a really good line that does still summarise what bullshittery is gonna happen, but also shows me what the writing is going to be like
i tend to add a little OR: basic plot summary at the end of mine, so if the excerpt from the fic doesn’t explain enough, there’ll be a basic sentence that might say what the characters want or the scenario i’m throwing them into
