Ahh, Baten Kaitos. It came up in an article on Silconera, saying that, while amazing, had draw backs of bad hands and too slow due to complexity.
Well, they're not wrong. It is long and drawn out. But the thing about that game is, written in the code is the potential for VERY GOOD RNG. But it wasn't spelled out very well in game, so most people didn't know about it.
Because your RNG card drawing depended on the relationship between Kalas and you, the spirit. If you chose the right choices and bonded well with the brat, then battles went very, very well, you get combos out of your ass. If not, well you find yourself with that hand of four armor and one revival pendant. Yikes.
Really, it would have been great if they had given you a meter, something you could check to see how you're doing... instead, nope, no luck. I have notes somewhere, I measured out pretty much every response up to about Mira. Maybe one day I'll find it and type it all out, lord knows they should have released a guide on it.
Also though, it mentions the attack review screen. The attack review screen that you can turn off. You turn it off and suddenly the battles are quicker! Wow! WHO would have GUESSED? so I'm conflicted because hey, they brought up BK! That never gets brought up, people bashed it hard back in the day. But I get the feeling that whoever wrote that article, did so out of reminisce and not recent play, because you learn a lot through fresh eyes.
