I wanted to share a bit of something I'm putting my character through at the moment: pain inhibiting sleep. I love it so much (when it's the character, not so much when it's me, lol chronic pain go brr)

The injury makes it impossible to get comfortable. Multiple injuries make Whumpee have to choose which injury to aggravate because everything they do makes something somewhere hurt. For captive whump (which my story is) restraints would be an added problem on top of that. And of course, Whumper doesn't see fit to provide an extra pillow (or even a real bed, just a mat on the floor) so it's not a comfortable setup in the first place.

oh that's so good. yes. especially because pain is EXHAUSTING. it makes them so so tired but they also can't sleep, it all aggravates everything else. there's no way to get comfortable, and the trauma of what they've experienced/are continuing to experience is making their nervous system go haywire too, which makes even closing their eyes for too long difficult because it feels so, so unsafe.

so they're just. exhausted. frustrating. and they hurt so much.

i completely understand why loop is going “teehee!” so much. i know deep in my heart that star is having to physically drag that word from their mouth, the phantom of gritted teeth and spitting acid accompanying it. sometimes you get so angry it comes back around to smiles.

❝ here you go, eat up! ❞ he's prepared a big bowl of ramen this time. it's nothing fancy ( a basic shoyu broth, chicken chashu, soft-boiled egg, some tofu, mushrooms, the works ), but it is a simple recipe that Dia has perfected over the years. there's no way it won't warm the heart at least a little bit.

Cyrus picked up his soup spoon and chopsticks the moment the bowl was set in front of him, casting scrutinising eyes on its contents.

First, the visual grading.

White: the tofu, the egg. The broth was semi-clear, as it should be, Black: the mushroom. Perhaps sesame seeds could be added to further enhance the dish. Red: the chicken. Typically this colour was reserved for chili oil, but Cyrus wasn't one for a lot of spice. Green: the onions, a staple of any self-respecting soup. Yellow: the yolk, the noodles.

Thus concluded the visual portion of Cyrus' judgement, noodles hanging off the end of his chopsticks.

Smell and taste could be done at the same time.

He leans his head in closer to the table and, before anything else, he sips the broth from the spoon. Yep, smelled and tasted good.

Now Cyrus could continue to eat normally (after tricking himself into doing so.)

Diamond might've been pleased to find he did just that with no further comment, save for the slurping of noodles. Safe to assume he liked it.
