It's snowing, heavily, since about 10am. The kind of snow that's supposed to fall on a Saturday when you don't have to leave the house (so I am VERY glad I got the emissions out of the way in the rain). I've been saving the sample of Cantrip Candles' Coffee Shop for a day like this. I'm not any kind of a coffee drinker, it just tastes like drinking pain. Dark, strong, pain. But I do occasionally like the smell of coffee- in the same way that I like the look of a bowl of mixed nuts in the shell for winter holidays but don't eat nuts. This candle's coffee scent is strong and sweet, coffee and cream. Allegedly there's chocolate in there, too, but I don't really smell that unless that's just how the sweetness comes out. A little goes a long way, and I probably wouldn't choose to buy a candle like this, but since I have it, it's been an interesting sensory enrichment to introduce into the enclosure. For a scent that I wasn't thrilled to see in the sampler pack, this is the perfect use case, too. And, if you *do* like coffee, at one point between lighting the candle and waiting to be able to smell it, I thought to myself, "Wow, I can smell somebody's coffee in my apartm-oh." I'm always slightly curious how some of these scents would go together. They probably *shouldn't* but Coffee Shop and Library Scriptorium seem like they might go. Especially if, like, Coffee in the kitchen and Scriptorium in the bookshelf. So you're not burning them next to each other, but you're creating a scent environment. In the same way that toast changes if you've made bacon. If you make toast and eggs, it's nice but not particularly a definable scent. If you make bacon and eggs, everything smells like bacon, it's OK. If you make toast and bacon, something else happens. I do not understand it, but it's the only example of that I can think of. Regardless, I'd like to find more, but I'm not brave enough to try it- I'm occasionally really sensitive to scents- I cannot go into the aisles that sell air fresheners and dryer sheets and stuff in big box stores where everything's stacked to the ceiling. It's overwhelming. So adventures with positive scents truly is enrichment.
