Twin Trope/Cliche #1

There are so many twin tropes that appear in all kinds of media including novels, short stories, movies, fan-fictions, poems, etc. Often these tropes are over-used, cliche, and downright unrealistic. So to help the aspiring writer, we’ve decided to start putting together a short guide on twin tropes that are best avoided in one’s writing.

Trope #1: Good Twin/Bad Twin

This trope has literally been used since humans began story-telling. One great example of this trope is the Haudenosaunee Creation Story, in which Sky Woman gives birth to an evil twin and a good twin. While we can absolutely understand and accept the use of such a trope in ancient, mythological stories and storytelling, the use of such a trope in writing today is not so forgivable. This trope is so overused that it has become boring and stale. Not mention it’s not very realistic; especially in the case of identical twins. Identical twins are usually extremely similar to one another in looks, tastes, interests, personalities, and style. Chances are if one twin is evil, so is the other. And if one twin is good, then other is also good.  

So if you’re writing about twins, don’t use this trope! To this day we refuse to read or watch anything that involves this trope. It doesn’t interest or excite us, rather it annoys us, or just makes us laugh.

Gemini thing

So, I call to all my lovely geminis out there. When I first got into Zodiac stuff, I saw gemini and thought they were cool as hell, from the name to having twins as their sign. However, I asked if gemini were either sensitive or there were two types. From personal experience and others opinions, I settled on two types.

The Good Twin.

And

The Bad Twin.

I've meant both. I dont hate gemini or dislike them, to me personally I could care less about their sign, I judge people on character and how they treat others. I just need some feedbacks from you lovelies out there on this because im stumped!! Im friends with a good twin, and a bad twin is "friends" with my girlfriend and doesnt get the memo to leave us, K, V, N, M, and H alone. So I'll break down the relationships! P.S. These two geminis have the same birthday, but arent related at all, ironic.

The good twin, he is a close friend in my opinion, and very sweet. Hes one of those people that will do anything to help you and put up with all your drama and nonsense no matter what. He'll stick up for you, but hes pretty mellow and just gets along with people. Overall hes just a good person so there not much to say here.

The bad twin, has been rude, attacks personal things, and has no limits. Shes gone from insulting my friends and their homosexuality, to yelling in public how horrible you are because of this or that when she feels threatened. I dont know why she hates me personally, but she attacks me constantly. I disclaim now, i have never verbally or physically attacked her; she always attacks me first and I do my best to respond in self-defense. Im not perfect, but this girl is something else. She attacks me and my girlfriend for being gay, and accuses us of many things that are pure predijuce and stereotyping, because were gay. Shes honestly a horrible person, and really goes out of her way to hurt you. I dont know what shes dealing with personally, but mocking mental issues, being selectively homophobic, and accusing of stereotyping is quite shocking.

So, this is partially a rant about this girl, but my darling geminis, is this something you see? Experienced, or just a bad apple out of the better of all of you? I would love a response amd I hope this isn't offensive to any of you dears!

I find it really interesting that Kameron Michael’s evil twin had dreadlocks. Not only was it cultural appropriation, but it implied that a traditional POC hairstyle was somehow more sinister than straight eurocentric hair. Tonight she had tragic looks, along with tragic cultural awareness.
