Danganronpa 2 and Lost both failed at the most basic rule of storytelling.

If you have a volcano in your story, there should be a totally sick climax wherein the volcano erupts. It's like the coolest possible version of Chekov's Gun, because volcanoes are scientifically proven to be totally radical and climactic.

DR2 actually used the volcano on the island... for a single *execution*; unless I'm drastically misremembering something, it never actually erupted. Sure, this isn't an action-based franchise (in what might be considered the big 3 mainline installments, anyways), but it would have felt like a nice cap when >!reality started to collapse!< in the climax.

Lost, meanwhile, was supposedly planned to have a totally epic final fight, only for the writers to not want to do it... because the worst Star Wars movie had had a climax with lava semi-recently. Which is the worst reason not to pay off a setup ever. And I'm usually a Lost defender!

TLDR more volcanoes please! Even DBZ/S grasped this despite everyone being reasonably immune to lava, because volcanoes are SICK!!!

“Hey babe!” You said entering the shop.

Kazuichi’s bike shop had been getting a lot of customers lately and even though he barely had time for other things he was happy because he could make more money for his family and himself.

“Hey s/o! I’ll be free in a sec.” He took his eyes off the motorcycle which’s oil he was changing and glanced at you with a smile.

You sat down in one bench while waiting for him to finish, fiddling with the objects inside of your pockets nervously.

It didn’t take him long to finish the job and join you on the bench.

“How’s my favorite girl doing?” He kissed your cheek.

“I’m okay.” You said. “Actually I have something I want to tell you.”

“Oh... Go ahead then.”

“I...” He looked at you expectantly. “I’m pregnant!”

“W-WHAT?” Kazuichi wiped his hands on his monkey suit and got up. “Really!?”

You gave him a positive nod and a huge smile appeared on his face.

“I’m gonna be a daddy!!” He exclaimed giving you a big hug. “I-I’m so happy! I don’t know what to say..!”

Tears of happiness started pouring from his eyes but you were quick to wipe them away.

“Thank you so much, s/o.”

“What are you thanking me for?” You giggled.

“You gave me a chance. And now I’m gonna start a family of my own.” He said. “I’m sorry if I’m being cheesy but... I really do appreciate you.”

“And I love you, dummy.” You kissed his left cheek. “You make me so incredibly happy everyday.”

“I’ll work twice as hard to make sure our baby will have everything I didn’t have.” Kazuichi took your hand, starting to become emotional again. “I’ll give you two the life you deserve.”

“I know you’ll be the best father.”

“Y-you think so?” He hugged you again.

“I know it.”

Shuichi Saihara

Your suspicions were correct, you were having a child. After all this time trying, you were finally going to be a mom!

You could barely keep yourself from calling Shuichi right away to tell him the news, but you were able to contain yourself by imagining how much better it would be to do it in person.

After waiting the whole afternoon you finally heard the sound of keys jiggling from outside and ran to open the door.

“Welcome home!” You threw your arms around his neck and hugged him for a while before pulling away, but not without giving him a quick peck on the cheek.

“Thank you, s/o.” He gave you a tired smile. “Did something happen? You seem very happy.”

“Actually, yes.” You grabbed his hand and sat him down in the sofa. “I have something to tell you.”

“Should I be scared?” He jokingly asked.

“Well I don’t know, you tell me.” You said. “You’re going to be a father!!”

“I’m.. WHAT?” You saw his grey eyes widen. “Y-you’re not kidding, are you?”

“Of course not!” You assured him. “I took 3 tests just to be sure.”

“I can’t believe it...” He ran a hand through his hair. “You’re... pregnant?”

“No, that’s wrong!” You said. “WE’re pregnant.”

“...” He grabbed your wrist pulling you down into his arms and embraced you tightly. “..I love you so much..”

“I love you too, baby.”

You tried to gently pull away to look at his face but you felt his grip harden. “Please, don’t.. look at me right now.”

You moved his hair away from his forehead and brought your lips to the spot, placing there a soft kiss. “Please, Shuichi. Let me see your beautiful face.”

He reluctantly let you pull away and you saw that he was crying, tears staining his porcelain skin.

“... Aren’t you happy, my love?” You asked cupping his cheek on your hand.

“I’m.. terribly happy, it’s just that.. I’m scared.” He placed his own hand on top of yours and looked away.

“As am I.” You moved his head to face you. “I don’t know a lot of things... But I am ready to learn, with you.”

“I want to be there for you and the baby.”

He paused, rubbing his eyes, then said: “I want to be a good father.”

“I’m sure you’ll be. You’re sweet, caring and intelligent... And I know you can do it because I believe in you.”

“S/o.” He said. “Thank you. You always know what I need to hear.”

“I try.” You laughed.

You stayed in his embrace and hugged for what felt like hours.

Kaito Momota

He woke up in the middle of the night.

Next to him was only your loyal dog which always slept on the bed, guarding you two.

“S/o, where are you?” He asked mildly annoyed. “Come back to bed, will ya?”

“I’m on the bathroom.”

“Hurry up baby, you need to get some sleep for tomorrow.” He said rolling to his side and closing his eyes, hoping to fall asleep again.

He quickly realized he couldn’t sleep without you and decided to wait until you returned.

After some time he was starting to get worried.

“Everything alright in there?” He got up and knocked on the bathroom door.

You didn’t respond but he could still hear the quiet sobs coming from inside. “S/o, are you ok?”

“... I’m ok, you go back to sleep.” You said, wiping your tears with the sleeve of your pajama blouse.

“You’re clearly not ok.” He sighed. “I’m coming in, alright?”

“Wait no-” You hurriedly shoved the item you were holding in one of the cabinets and lifted yourself up from the ground.

The door opened and Kaito entered the bathroom.

“Baby come’ere.” He held his arms out to you. “Give me a hug and tell me what’s wrong.”

You could see that he was still groggy from sleep but was doing his best to solve the problem.

You took a step forward, letting him close his arms around you, making you feel immediately better.

“You gotta tell me what’s up or else I can’t help you.” He said rubbing your back gently with one of his hands. “When you’re ready I’ll listen to what you want to tell me.”

You let yourself be comforted by his presence for a bit before saying. “You know... I probably worry too much sometimes.”

You took a deep breath and pulled away, then proceeded to take the test from the cabinet and presenting it to your boyfriend.

“I... I really hope this makes you as happy as it does with me but..” You said. “I’m pregnant.”

His jaw dropped.

“Does that mean... I’M GOING TO BE A FATHER?!”

“Well, yes..”

He didn’t give you time to finish your sentence, grabbing your waist and spinning you in the air, then bringing you down to eye level and kissing you passionately in the lips.

“Gosh, I love you so much!” His eyes were gleaming like crazy, he was absolutely ecstatic.

“I’m just so glad you’re happy...” You wrapped your arms around his neck and broke down crying once again.

“Wha- Why are you crying?” He asked. “Did you think I would be mad at you or something? We’re gonna be parents, isn’t that great?”

“I thought that because you want to go to space and are always working maybe it wouldn’t be the best thing for you.” You muttered. “I’m relieved that I was wrong.”

“I already love our child.” He said. “He or she will be the best astronaut after daddy, of course.”

He winked at you. “Did you really believe that I wouldn’t support you when you need me the most? I’ll be the world’s damn best dad!”

He kissed your cheek multiple times and a smirk started spreading on his lips as he whispered: “What do you say about starting to work on a little brother?”

“You’ll never change, will you?” You rolled your eyes and laughed.

“Nah, I know you love me like this.”

Ryoma Hoshi

“S/o...” Ryoma turned to you straight-faced. “Why is there a bun in the oven?”

“I was nervous to tell you so I thought that it would be a good way to do it.”

“... To toast bread?”

“Nooo.” You started laughing. “I’m pregnant.”

...You’re pretty sure you broke him.

He’s just standing there blank faced, looking at the floor.

It’s starting to worry you, honestly.

“You... You’re not kidding, are you?”

“Of course not!” You said. “You do want to have this kid with me, right?”

“... I do.”

“Look at me, Ryoma.” You demanded. “You’re going to be a great father. You and I are going to take care of this child and he or she will love you.”

“How are you so sure, s/o?” He tugged at his hat.

“Because you deserve it. And I know that if they’re like you they’ll have a good heart and a good head on their shoulders.”

“... You know how to make a man believe he’s actually worth something, right kiddo?” He took your hand in his. “Even if I don’t believe in myself, I’ll do it for you. And our child.”

“Well, this is new.” He chuckled, picking you up and hugging you.

You closed your legs around him and started kissing his neck.

“I was going to ask how you felt about it but I don’t think it’s necessary anymore.” He laughed. “Pretty sure you’re happy.”

“I’m overjoyed!” You said. “But of course... I’m also scared.”

“This is really big news, but don’t worry.” Rantaro looked you in the eyes. “I’m going to be there for you and help you with whatever you need.”

“Thanks babe.”

“I’m only doing my job.” He smiled.

“But you...” You said. “How do you feel about this?”

“Well...” He sighed. “We’re still young, I’d rather wait a little more before settling down. But I’ll own up to my actions and accept the consequences.”

He put you down in the sofa and petted your hair. “I love you and I’m sure I’ll love our child too.”

“I appreciate the sincerity.” You said. “To be honest, I can’t think of anyone in the world I’d be happier to do this with.”

“Same.” He kissed your forehead.

Kokichi Ouma

He was trying to romance you with one of those fancy dinners he made once in every blue moon.

They consisted mainly of frozen lasagna and ice cream but it still made you feel special nonetheless.

He reached out to pour you a glass of wine but you said:

“Thanks but I can’t drink that.”

“Do you not like this brand?” He asked. “I can get you another one if you want.”

“Yeah, but that won’t work either.”

“Oh, ok. Do you want like, cider or something instead?”

“No, thank you.”

“Why?”

“I...”

“Yeah..?”

“I’m... you know...” You started smiling. “I’m pregnant.”

“...!” He dropped the bottle of wine he was holding and stared at you for a good 5 seconds.

“You’re... what now?”

“I’m pregnant.”

“You.. you’re kidding, right?” He asked.

“Not at all.” You went to the bathroom to retrieve the test you had taken earlier, then returned to the kitchen. You showed him the test which clearly indicated that you were, in fact, pregnant. “I was gonna tell you tonight, actually.”

“Haha great one, s/o.” He pretended not to hear you. “Almost got me.”

“I’m being serious, Kokichi.”

He took a deep breath.

“It’s... it’s mine, right?” He muttered.

“Uh? Of course it is!” You lifted your shirt a bit and took his hand and placed it on your belly. “Our child is growing inside me. Don’t you feel happy?”

“... I’ll show you exactly how I feel.” He closed his hand around your wrist and guided you to the living room, gently pulling you down onto the sofa.

“What are you-“

“Since the moment we first met, I knew you were different.”

He leaned forward, placing his hands on your sides.

“You make me feel special and want to be with you. I don’t bother hiding my emotions from you anymore, cause I don’t mind you seeing me being vulnerable.” He towered over you. “Y’know?”

“What?” You realize you were grinning.

“I’m pretty happy I got to meet you.” He said twirling a piece of your hair on his finger. “I never imagined I would be a father one day.”

“Well I hope you’re ready.” You chuckled.

“Oh, bring it.” He got closer and when it looked like he was about to kiss your neck he stopped, looked you in the eye and blew on it, giving you a devilish grin.

You were quite annoyed by this. “You little shit.”

You grabbed his face and planted a kiss on his lips, taking him by surprise.

You were forceful at first, kissing him with urgency. He seemed amused by this and purposefully stayed still, not returning your kiss.

“Wow, someone sure is needy today.” He leaned in and whispered in your ear. “Is it because you’re preggo?”

“..You jerk!” You punched him lightly on the shoulder and both of you started laughing.

“...Today just wasn’t a great day.”

“Ibuki understands.” She said. “Should I sing a song to cheer you up?”

“Nah, no need.” He ran his fingers through his hair. “Would you mind if- Can I hold you, instead?”

“Oh.” Ibuki scooted closer to him and sat on his lap, facing him. “Of course!”

Kazuichi wrapped his arms around her and pulled her a little closer.

“Everything will be alright.” She caressed his cheek. “We can just stay like this if you want to.”

“Ibuki knows that Kazuichi’s trying his best.” She hugged him. “Even if things aren’t great right now, I know it’ll be fine.”
