I just came home this evening to an outpouring of support and love from so many people for my little cat.
Work was hard, knowing I would come home and there would be no little sweater-wearing boy galloping to the door to see me, that he wouldn't snuggle into my face when I got into bed.
Bartok was such an amazing kitten, and I'm lucky we had so much time with him in his short life.
Abandoned by his mother at two weeks, we took him in. He had a chronic illness that cause flares of upper respiratory issues that he was medicated for multiple times over the last few months, but that was simple. He didn't grow all his fur in for so many months, but that was simple.
This was hard. Knowing that we had run out of options, was hard. There have been many tears shed today over this little cat, from folks at the vet who have been attending to him, to my wonderful partners, to my roommates, friends, coworkers and family members. And from you, you wonderful people who sent us beautiful messages and shared your own stories and let us know that you cried along with us.
We have thousands of photos and hundreds of little videos of this boy, ones we've never shared, that we will put up in memoriam of him. Remembering him for the sweet cat that he was is all we can do, and we will heal.
Thank you so much, everyone who shared our story, who donated, who gave us options to begin with to try and keep him from suffering. We haven't finished paying off bills yet, but anything left over is going to a charity we work closely with.
We've closed his fundraiser, but will leave his donate button up on his blog. Anything donated will go towards any remaining bills and an urn for our little boy. You can also donate to our no-kill animal rescue group through our GoFundMe page.
Our little alien went back to his home planet. Maybe we'll be lucky enough to have another visitor like him someday.
Thank you so much. I hope everyone has a happy and healthy 2015.
Sincerely,
Kat
