The Shelter Chapter 36 Goodbye John

He finds him in the living room, talking quietly with Claudel. Not wishing to interrupt them, he takes a seat a bit away from them and looks around. This place had become home, safety, security, redemption. Since Claire, he can add love and forever. He will miss the place, the people. Especially John and his children. His best male mate here. He is Uncle to his children. To make sure he can keep in contact with him is the goal.

“Jamie, were you wanting to talk to me?”

“Aye. Claire and I we are heading home, to Lallybroch. Jenny she sent plane tickets. You know I wanted to wait until I could contribute but she needs me. At the end of her pregnancy and sounds scared. My sister is never scared.”

“Sounds like you are doing the right thing. Two tickets so she knows how important Claire is to you. All good.”

“Aye. I will miss you and the lads.”

“We will miss you too but you have Claire and your family.”

“Aye. But not my best mate.” John smiles.

“We will stay in touch. William will insist on it. So will I.”

“And I. I am glad you have Claudel. Seems you two are getting along well.”

“Yes. We are taking it slow but yes heading towards something.”

“Brilliant. I will want to hear all about it.”

“You will. When are you leaving?”

“Tomorrow. It is Jenny. I want to.”

“You needn't justify wanting to head to family to me. I am truly happy for you. You and Claire. You both deserve this. Family. Home. You will let me know about your sister?”

“Absolutely. Here is the address and phone number for Lallybroch. When you move you will give me yours.”

“I will.”

“I need to be packing. Plane leaves early.”

“Understand.” They hug tight. Jamie then goes over to Claudel.

“Take care of him.”

“Oui'. I will.” He squeezes his shoulder and heads back into the small room to finish packing.
