End-of-the-Year Lunch Program with Teachers. [July 6, 2014]
The school year has ended, final exams and grades are done, parents day program was yesterday, so only one thing remains: Teachers' Lunch!
Every year, all the teachers get together for a final school evaluation and lunch. Several female teachers volunteer to cook delicious food [injera and t'ibs] as well as coffee [buna] and popcorn [fendisha], and then as we all eat, the Principal, Vice Principal, and a few teachers share / present the year's evaluation.
At the end, I was able to say thank you to everyone for supporting me the past 2 years, and that it has been such a rewarding experience being part of this school and community. Not only were they my work family, they were my aunts, uncles, and friends in Leku. They took me to the market, or invited me to their homes for tea / lunch, or helped me with my stressful rats-in-the-ceiling issue, etc.
It was a strange feeling, realizing that this was truly the end of the school / work part of my service. Even though I won't be leaving Leku until the end of July, it was my final time seeing many of them because some of them go to other towns during the summer to see family or attend a graduate program. So I was especially grateful to have this opportunity to say thank you and a proper goodbye to them.
