I’m gonna miss sourcefed
I’m gonna miss it so much you guys, the table talks, the podcast, the amazing people. All the people that worked there are so talented and smart I’m sure they’ll find a good job somewhere else but just thinking about the fact that even just for now so many people are out of work, it fucking sucks. It also feels like all of this just came out of nowhere, one second table talk was merely going on hiatus and the next it’s the last one that will ever be uploaded because both channels are being cancelled. Although I can’t really complain about not being in the loop because I haven’t been able to watch any of the videos they’ve uploaded the past few days because it just hurts, maybe they explained it even just a little bit in a video I haven’t watched yet but... yeah... these are my feels... Goodbye sourcefed, it’s been a blast <3 <3
Goodbye Negotiator
You know what, no, no one follows me here so I can afford to just be freakin’ mad about something for a hot minute--
I’m like devastated that SourceFed and it’s other limbs have been dropped for zero reason, and I’m hypothesising that a part of that is down to the fact that SourceFed was such a mirror for Geek & Sundry and the Vlogs channel in so many ways, but here’s the thing; I’m at least happy that they got to end it right. For such short notice every single person who worked there had such a sense of camaraderie and justice and what was right and looking out for one another and for the audience that even with only a WEEK’s notice, they put together an announcement, a bunch of finale videos AND a goodbye livestream which brought back almost every single person we’d grown to love. They got to end it on their terms and they got to do right by them and by the audience.
So I am just so. impossibly. unendingly. angry that all we got for the vlogs channel was an email telling us not to say anything. “Make your last vlog, tell people it’s your last one and to follow your personal channels, but do not announce that production is ending and that you’ve all lost your jobs. We’ll put a stranger in the middle of your goodbye week just to invalidate you and all the work you’ve done further, to insult you and your audience and the woman we invited as a guest to this gallows march.”
The trouble I was in when I broke rank and announced the end of Geek & Sundry vlogs on my facebook page because I couldn’t cope anymore with the questions I was receiving as the most consistently popular vlogger on the channel and the first to announce my leaving with no warning; no context; no reason.
The injustice is just striking me a little harder today than usual that they got a live stream and a chance to say goodbye properly, with dignity and with honour, and all I got was told to shut up and smile and play nice for the launch of the G&S twitch station less than a fortnight later.
I saved G&S ass so many times during that transition and have to keep watching as they screw up PR time and again for the sake of legacy media companies who despise the new media audiences which have cherished G&S and built it into what it is. We were a bridge between the channel and its audience, a bridge that they deliberately burned.
But anyway. Congrats to SourceFed on an excellent and well earned send off. You all were amazing and this shouldn’t have happened. But at least you got an ending.
