Second post of the Goode's School Atlas from 1939. The gorgeous map above is the Soviet Union.
Went back to Goode's today to try out the kebob I'd skipped yesterday and actually had the first, not bad, but irritating experience I've had at a truck.
The food was great. Let's start with that. I got the jerk sauce on the kebob, side of rice. Banging. Great. Highly recommended.
However, call ahead. I'd never show up to Goode's again without doing so. I arrive to ~15 in line. It was an hour before I got my food. This is pretty unreasonable. I've been in lines of 50+ at Fojol that have moved much quicker. It's unacceptable to be that inefficient and take that long--if I'm waiting for my food, I'm not on the clock and I'm not getting paid. That kebob is all of a sudden much less worth it. Unfortunately, it seems like yesterday's rain and short wait was the exceptional experience.
Fortunately enough, it was a lovely day. If I'm going to be waiting outside an hour for food it might as well be seventy and sunny!
Know what doesn't at all look delicious? Curried chicken.
Know what is rarely a disappointed as its inherently delicious? Curried chicken.
Fojol Brothers were out of veggies and sides. Wonky Truck was shut down. All that was open was Austin Grille (am I a snob for not considering them a food truck, as they're a chain restaurant already?) and Goode's.
Upon being undecided between the curried chicken and the chicken kabob, the gentleman who was waiting upon me gave me samples of both. This was an issue, as both were awesome. I went the curried chicken route, as I'd originally set out for Fojol Brothers, and I was not disappointed. Thick, creamy, and a huge portion size with a side of rice for $8.
It's been a while since I last had Fojol--I remember them being excellent and also being blown away by the portion size. They lived up to the hype, however the hype usually means a very long line. While Fojol takes the Indian route to curried chicken, Goode's is soul food. It's been too long to directly compare but I can whole-heartedly recommend both.
The food coma's setting in, but this was seriously worth it. They're going to be nearby tomorrow--I may find out what I missed with the kabob...
