Google reviewed the app — called Absher — and ruled that it does not violate any agreements, and therefore will remain on Google Play.

INSIDER last month reported how Absher — an all-purpose app which Saudis use to interact with the state — offers features which allow Saudi men to grant and rescind travel permission for women, and to set up SMS alerts for when women use their passports.
Google has rejected calls to remove a Saudi government app which offers a tool for men to control where women travel.
The company told the office of Democratic Rep. Jackie Speier, who had called for its removal, that the app does not violate its terms of service.
INSIDER reported extensively how the app — called Absher — lets men direct where women can travel, and offers alerts when they use a passport to leave Saudi Arabia.
US Reps. Jackie Speier, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib, and 11 others demanded on February 21 that Apple and Google axe the app.
Google and Apple CEO Tim Cook both promised to investigate the app. Apple have yet to announce their ruling.
Speier told INSIDER: "The responses received so far from Apple and Google are deeply unsatisfactory."

Neural machine translation
I have been using Google Translate a lot on this trip. Few people here in Rio de Janeiro speak English.
It is an incredible app that also works without cell service. You just download whatever language(s) you need to your phone.
There’s a conversation feature that allows you to go back and forth with someone in real time (almost).
There’s a camera feature that is invaluable for translating restaurant menus.
And there are a number of smaller features that I have also found really useful.
For example, if you rotate your phone into landscape mode, it will show you your translation in big text like a flash card.
It looks like this (trust me it is useful):
I also just learned that, since November 2016, the Translate app has been using a neural machine translation system developed by Google.
It is capable of understanding and translating complete sentences, and that has reduced translation errors by about 60% compared to the previous system.
Rather than translate word-by-word or phrase-by-phrase, Google's NMT network encodes the “semantics of sentences.”
