The Google bus in San Francisco, which shuttles employees to and from work has become a touchstone, symbolising the gentrification of San Francisco, alienation of the technocracy from its locality, and stark economic inequality produced. In reality, the Google bus—and similar shuttles for tech companies such as Apple, Facebook, and Yahoo—is simply an answer to the lack of adequate public transportation to Silicon Valley. Very reasonable. Nonetheless, protests against the buses started around late 2013, and today remain a symbol of the wealth disparity and gentrification that only continues to grow with these tech giants' place in the global economic order. Dystopia is already here.
