I'm listening to this google tech talk and the speaker mentions all these things that you don't technically need to be intelligent and operate.

One of them is a body. "You have to have motor output but that could be all virtual in some cyberspace someplace"

 and it brings me back to a quote from lain

"The body only serves to verify one's existence."

This anime seems to always be one step ahead. 

Also, Sibyl. Sibyl in this sense is legit.

but anyway, this talk fits perfectly with the themes explored in lain.
