mademoisellemigraine tagged me, so she better come read this when I post it!! :)
1. If you could wake up again at the age of ten with all of the knowledge that you have right now and do your whole life over from that point, would you do it? Things to consider: You would have to re-live adolescence and high school and all that bullshit, but you could possibly do it better.
Holy hell no. If I woke up at the age of ten knowing what I was going to go through over the next seven years, I would go cry inside of a cave until I died of malnourishment or bear teeth. Even if I managed to face what was coming head on, I wouldn't want to change things, because the smallest changes can have large effects and I like my current adult life. As bad as that age was, it got me to a good place, and making it better then may make it worse now. So fuck to the no on that one.
2. Based on your personality (NOT your personal preference) what superpower would you have?
Telepathy, without a doubt. Mind reading. Mind communication. Mind control. Possibly all rolled up into one. I am all about the mental - if you can pull information out of someone's mind, you have almost complete control over them if you use it correctly. Knowledge is power! (Holy shit...I just figured it out. I AM a slytherin. That test that put me as 1 point more Slytherin than Ravenclaw and Gryffindor was right. I'm cool with that. Snape is a total badass.)
3. If you believe in reincarnation, what past lives do you think you might have had? If you don’t believe in reincarnation, make some shit up because it’s fun.
My fantasy series actually began as a past life regression a friend and I did. We did them separately, at the same time, in our own homes, and wrote everything down, and we came up with very similar information, and even got the same names for the same people. That said, we were best friends, so we could have done that by just knowing each other that well, who knows. But that was in Italy or somewhere in southern Europe, in the 1870s.
I did another past life regression once that put me as a boy born in Eastern Europe, who lived on the streets after his parents and older sister died. He got in trouble with some people and ran away and eventually made it to the European coast somewhere. He found work in a shop sweeping floors, then as a sailor, and worked his way up until he got in with the trade company that owned the ships he worked on. He was good with numbers, so became apprenticed there and eventually took over the trade company. Didn't have a wife or any kids, though he did fall in love with a woman for quite a few years, but she eventually left. He became mostly bedridden after a heart attack, but the people who worked for him really loved him and so he was rarely alone. After a second heart attack he died.
Pretty sure I totally made that up out of my ass though, because it makes me both brilliant and awesome and mysterious, all things which I strive for regularly :D
4. Have you had enough water to drink today?
More than enough for most people, but apparently not enough for me
5. What is your favorite drink to order at a coffee shop?
Hot chocolate, no whipped cream. Because coffee and whipped cream are both gross. Blegh.
6. What is your ideal night out?
Hmm. Okay, I'm going to assume the "ideal" part allows me to disregard physical restrictions due to current illness or injury (because ideally I wouldn't have them).
It would start in one of those big trampoline gyms, where the floor and walls are nothing but giant trampolines. We would play one on one dodgeball and have a competition for the most ridiculous gymnastics moves, who could stay in the air the longest, etc.
Then after a shower which may or may not be taken together, we would go to chuck e cheese or somewhere comparable, where we would stuff our faces with pizza and play arcade games. There would be much competition and at least a few five year olds would learn the art of creative cursing.
Then we would go to a giant library or bookstore where we'd be the only people there (because for some reason in my head the owners have given us access overnight while they are closed?). We would explore the various sections, picking random fiction books and acting out the scenes from them, and discussing the premises and conclusions in a good number of non-fiction books that we come across randomly. And then we'd find a giant pile of pillows and blankets where kids have reading time and fall asleep on them.
7. How are you feeling about romance these days?
Ugh, life hurts with it and hurts without it. It's just picking the type of hurt you want. At any rate, I'm bad at it, I know that much. I'm incapable of pushing words out of my mouth if they will make me feel the least little bit vulnerable. Like physically my throat locks up. Which is stupid, because someone can point a gun in my face and I'll make fun of them, without any fear whatsoever.
8. Do you have any tattoos? Are there any you are considering getting?
YES! I love tattoos dearly. I have one on my left bicep of DNA and space wrapped up around the Carl Sagan quote "We are all star stuff." I also have an anklet with an ankh charm (or an "ankhlet" if you will, get it, haha. (Full disclosure, my tattoo artist came up with that pun, not me.)) I also have a triquetra on my back.
I want a really big tattoo that will take up pretty much my entire back but I'm going to wait a long time because, you know, commitment. But I want an image of the tree of life on my back, the trunk over my spin, and the branches fanning out over my shoulders. The current triquetra would be incorporated into this tattoo as a decoration hanging from a tree branch, and more symbols would be added in the same way. Sitting directly in front of the tree would be a black panther with blue eyes and a silver adornment on her head, with a blue jewel resting on her forehead. (This pather's name is Makia and I dream about her a lot. She is also a character in my fantasy series). I don't know if I'd want to put anything in the back drop. I kinda think it'd be cool to have nebulae and galaxies and shit in the background, but I don't think I could find or afford an artist talented enough to make them look real, and I'd want this to be a realistic tattoo, not a cartoony drawing.
That said, I have zero art skills, so if any of my artist friends wants to draw up a sketch of what this tattoo might look like I would appreciate your input!!
9. Dream a little: Pretend money, jobs, family, and other obligations don’t matter. What would you like to be doing at this exact moment?
On stage, in front of thousands of people, singing a beautiful song that I wrote and that means a lot to me. And, you know, not getting booed off stage.
There's only one thing that might rival the above answer...if I could also ignore the whole life/death problem, I'd also really like to be meeting my dad's birth mom.
10. What is your most cherished childhood memory?
I don't know. I honestly don't have that many memories, my memory is terrible. I think my most cherished moments are of those when I was outside, in whatever piece of nature I could find, by myself, for whatever limited time I had before getting into trouble. As a child I loved being alone in the peace and quiet. I remember sitting on a rock in the middle of a stream, watching snakes swim by and practicing my identification of the species by just the quick glance I would get as they swam past. And I would play with bugs, and hold funerals for dead things I found, and climb trees, and explore, and follow deer trails, and just lay down and watch the branches blow.
11. Okay, say time travel exists: You go back in time, get a band together, and make your favorite album before the band that originally made it gets a chance to record it. Is this plagiarism? More importantly, would you do it anyway?
Yes, it is definitely plagiarism. That said, being the "morality is relative" type of person I am, I think I would compromise.
I would go back in time, form the band and record it. I would make enough money to live comfortably, but not extravagantly, for the rest of my life, and I would put it into a bond or trust fund of some sort that I would then cash when I got back to the present (that way I don't lose money to inflation).
Then, I would find the people who originally made the album. I would give them all the excess money to help them start their band, and give them full ownership and copyright privileges for the albums. They could use the music, re-make it for themselves, whatever they want. Then I'd come back to the present and live out my days writing and doing whatever I want.
At least this way, I could convince myself that they could have never written the album without my help because I gave them the money to start the band in the first place. Now, this would probably not be totally true, but until someone proved or disproved the time paradox that is going back and affecting your own past/future, no one could argue with me :)
Okay, people that I tagged, here are my questions for you!
1. Describe your favorite pair of socks.
2. When you go outside on a clear night, with no lights around, and look up at the stars, how does it make you feel? What is your gut reaction?
3. Let's say you died today, and in floating around nothingness, you run into a person. This person asks you, of your entire life, what is your biggest regret and what are you most proud of. My question is this...Would you tell them the truth? Why?
4. When you put on pants, do you always put one leg in first? Which one? Are you left or right handed? (I'm curious to see if there's a correlation).
5. You know how when you meet someone for the first time and you have to go through the "small talk" subjects, like your name, where you're from, what you do, the weather, etc. If you could skip the small talk and just dive into any topic, which topic(s) would be on the top of your list?
6. What is one thing you've done that you were really proud of?
7. What is one important goal to you that you're working toward?
8. What is one thing you're good at that might be a surprise to others?
9. Say an alien ship lands on your front lawn. The aliens offer to take you with them, exploring the universe, learning all there is to know. You will only get to come back to earth in your old age, to share the knowledge you've accumulated with humanity. But no one can come with you, and you won't be able to contact any other people while you're gone. Would you go?
10. What is your favorite animal, and why?
11. I think life is nothing but a collection of stories. Tell me a little known story from your life.
